Making Sick Drops: The Thread

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

I think it's time that Pinback and I learned how to MAKE dubstep as well. I will be posting links of software that I think can do it, as well as tutorials and such that show how to get those sounds, that bass and the wu b wub wub.

Wouldn't it be great if I was actually able to make a lot of music for my next game myself? Of course it would be.

LET'S DO THIS!

Here's the first program I found, it's $39:

Wasn't there a FruityLoops Dubstep mixer?

I saw that program but was afraid to download it. It cautioned against using "online beat makers", but that made me think maybe there's way to create drops... sick drops... without ever going off the internet.

How would you create the sickest of drops, then? A bass guitar and some distortion pedals? I feel that while I can't play bass, I could play it well enough to generate noise.

No, I'm saying, dubturbo costs money, and part of their ads say "don't be fooled by online beatmakers!" So I feel like there's probably free, online alternatives.

The Massive VST is something like an industry standard for this. I don't do Dubstep myself (I'm a House kind of guy), but I know it's very suitable. You can search for "dubstep native instruments massive" on how to use it for that.

Problem is, it's expensive. 180€.

Of course you can always use auto pilot, toy-like generators that require little effort (and talent) and output generic, cookie cutter sound. But all you'll get is crap that sounds the same and gets boring quickly.

It sound like you have enough people here (throwing myself and Aardvark into the mix as well) to make all the music for your next game.

Are we getting paid?

Just joking. If Robb wants a custom soundtrack for his next game, I'm happy to participate. We could also collaborate on this. Sending stems for example if someone here knows a thing or two about mixing and mastering.
