If you own a house you almost certainly have insurance which will include coverage for damage to contents; it's part of the standard coverage and is required by your lender.
It is to your advantage to take pictures of the house, and of your stuff - video is good, too - because if you ever have to file a claim, nothing is better for showing loss than a 'before' and 'after' photograph.
Also, the photos have to be someplace offsite; having them on a computer in the house that burns to the ground is not going to help much.
