All Along the Watchtower

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Bachelor Machines and Robin Smith did a cover of All Along the Watchtower for the FWONK compliation. FWONK is, as far as I can tell, a series of Creative Commons-licensed music packs.

You can get them here: http://fwonk.com/

I asked Clint if he had a version of All Along the Watchtower without vocals. Nothing against the vocals in the one in the latest FWONK release, mind you! I just thought the music was breathtaking.

Anyway, if you go here and let the thing load, you can click the play button and listen to it. I love it: http://www.caltrops.com/pointy.php?acti ... pid=134454

The BSG cover of Watchtower is the only version of the song worth listening to, ever.

I played the song! In a BAND! In front of PEOPLE!

I AM EXPERT GUY, and I hate that song. Three notes.

Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.
Dudududuh, duduh, dudududuh.

At least the BSG version threw that cool riff in there and had a little INTENSITY DYNAMIC.

EXPERT GUY OUT

You should know, then, Ben, as the expert, that there must be some way out of here...

You are still not allowed to post here until you explain why Fargo is the second worst movie of all time.

Listen here, and I'm not kidding. Don't ever use that kind of tone to me or I will walk away and not come back. I mean that and I am as serious as a heart attack. I am fucking pissed off at being ordered around, especially when I had no prior notice. At no time did anyone ask me to explain my choices. All I ever saw was a message which quoted me saying I thought Fargo was the second worst movie I'd ever seen, and it had a Youtube link to some wierdo yodeling.

There has been no request asking me to explain, and now an implied threat of some kind as if I'm supposed to know that I was asked to do that.

Because of my postings on the Usenet newsgroup alt.seduction.fast I actually got an e-mail from Michael Raugh about a couple of years ago. For those of you that don't know him, he was the owner of the BBS that Ben, I and about five other people infested, and at least 3 of them are here now. Ben started a replacement BBS called the Bull and Finch Pub when Michael decided to close down his BBS.

Michael said that basically on his and Ben's BBS's I was similar to Ray Gordon, the resident misantropic sociopath and all-around pain-in-the-ass on alt.seduction.fast, who says things nobody wants to hear. When he says things, 99.99% of the time it's stuff totally unrelated to the conversation or uninteresting to anyone there.

Michael's opinion was that I was the BBS's equivalent to Cliff Claven on Cheers, i.e. a boring boorish yak-yak, or something like that. I discount that; I know Michael disagreed with a lot of my opinions, but it still makes me wonder.

I had the impression my comments posted here were desirable, and had someone wanted me to clarify them, they would have said so in a reasonable manner. But to basically be ordered around like so much of a servant sounds like maybe I've overstayed my welcome and it was just politeness that I wasn't asked to leave.

So tell me now whether my comments are desirable, because I'm in a bad mood over this kind of treatment, if you don't want my comments, say so. (I'm in a bad mood for other reasons as well [that I might explain later] which is why perhaps this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.) But do not threaten me again or I'll give you exactly what you asked for: since I didn't comment on Fargo I'll not comment on anything again.

I demand to know why you think Fargo is the second worst movie of all time.

I am deeply sorry that you didn't take me seriously and are willing to discard 12 years of friendship because you take comments where I said I was not kidding as a joke. Maybe I'll come back, maybe I won't, but it's clearly obvious you consider me a nuisance.

I would have answered your question had you given me even the slightest bit of common courtesy or in some way showed that you took me seriously. Your comments make it clear you consider me worthless.

I won't bother you any further and I'm saddened that I did so.

I apologize for the trouble I have caused since apparently I was not wanted since, oh I don't know, and I don't know what has changed.

I am so very hurt - you don't know how much it hurts - because I did like this place and wanted to be part of it but I guess I was kidding myself. You invited me to come by and comment a while ago, and I thought I was helping but clearly in some fashion I'm not.

Goodbye, Ben.

Ben, when someone says they're serious don't you think it's a good idea to take them at their word? What bothered me more than anything else was you never said a goddamn thing to me, you just immediately go into this tirade as if I'm supposed to read your mind and know that I was supposed to explain my actions.

Then when I point out that I'm upset because you're acting in a rude and insulting fashion, your response is to be even more rude. I tried being civil and polite and it got worse. So think about that, Ben.

I do not appreciate being treated as a doormat. I'm not in a good mood and the only reason I'm bothering to go further is because you have been my friend over many years and I do not want to damage that. But if you treat other people like that I'd be surprised if you kept many friends.

I apologize for any offense. If you have a moment, and wouldn't mind, could you give me a general idea as to why you found the film Fargo so distasteful? I am genuinely curious.

Thank you for your time.

Ben, if you had asked that way in the first place I wouldn't have gotten so upset. It was that you proceeded to tell me that I didn't answer you, again, like I was some kind of dog who'd pissed on your rug a second time after you having told me not to do so. Well, it's the inverse but I'm sure you understand what I mean.

I got your e-mail, and I accept your apology. Since it apparently is that important to you, I've made it a new topic in Citizen Kane of Nod. Maybe I should explain why I'm ticked off lately, it's also why I've decided to be an atheist rather than an agnostic.

I'm posting ON A MESSAGE BOARD to you, Paul Robinson.

I don't know how I can give you any further proof. Ask Jones for the IP address I guess. It will say Damascus.

I'm glad we were able to come to terms here. I'm going to let this go, and we can move on into a happier, healthier Jolt Country future, except to tell people that "my email" was me asking him if he'd lost his fucking mind.

Okay, onward to a better future. A better, more atheistic future.

It was more than that, Ben. You stated that yes, my input here is valuable. That was what I wanted to hear.

I'ma let this go, because I want nothing more than to keep the peace. And my way of letting this go is to reprint my email verbatim, right here:
SUBJECT: Are you out of your mind?

Unless that insane tirade on Jolt Country was a joke, then the answer is YES. Holy Christ-o-matic.
