Tommy Morello's latest project, this time (thankfully) back with the electric guitar.
If anything, this is his answer to De La Rocha's "One Day As A Lion" EP, which fucking ruled.
Whether this, his collaboration with rapper Boots Riley, measures up to De La Rocha's shockingly good effort, sort of depends on how much you like hearing Morello play those same five notes as hard and loud as he has for the last, Christ, almost 20 years now.
Some would say "all his shit sounds the same". Which, as the world's foremost Morello fan, I can also sort of start to admit.
I really don't care, though. Hearing him hit the roots, the third, the fifths, and the sevenths, is one of the few things left in music I can still totally love hearing, no matter what time of day it is, or what day it is.
And anyhow, any of these tracks is as good as the best of Audioslave, so it's the best electric Morello we've had since Rage broke up.
But how much good would this have sounded with Zach as frontman.
The universe of potential music weeps for our loss.
Maybe some day.
