I'm all about the Stanford. Any non-Ivy League school with a scramble band is OK by me.

I knew they were going to lose this week, as they trotted out the same bunch of guys who got their heads caved in the last three. There wasn't any evidence that anything had changed, and that amazes me. Nothing came out in the news that made you think, "Hmm! Well, that will be an interesting new wrinkle." A two week layoff because of the bye and they come out that shitty against a David Carr-led Carolina of all fucking teams.

The offensive line is horrible. Everyone (meaning, dumbass sports writers) says that "Reggie Bush can't run between the tackles." There ISN'T ANY GODDAMN ROOM THERE. Our center, Jeff Faine, has to be the single best guy in the league when it comes to not snapping the football when defensive linemen are drawn offsides. I have no idea what our guards are doing out there. We sent Jamaal Brown to the pro bowl last year and in addition to not being able to line up correctly (thus costing us a touchdown, a TD the team was unable to get back after the penalty) consistently does a worse job against his man than either of the two defensive ends we have on our team, who are "much bally-hooed."

Speaking of which: we drafted Charles Grant and Will Smith early. Grant got his huge second contract and Smith's is coming. They have one sack between them. Now, that is slightly a massaged stat because on one play against the Titans, Smith knocked Vince Young so hard that he fumbled (and Vince recovered his own fumble, of course). So really there are two sacks, but Jesus Christ, it's the second week of October.

Our receivers suck.

Our offensive line sucks.

Our kicking game... I'm not even prepared to discuss this. The only thing that didn't happen was Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox throwing the green flag out before Olindo Mare tried one of his endlessly shitty field goal attempts that everyone knew he was going to miss. (The green flag has guys from the INS come down to check his resident status.) Fox didn't have to do this because he knew Mare would miss any and all kicks.

The coaching is as bad as I've ever seen in New Orleans football, and that's saying something. Sean Payton is coaching like a 65 year old guy who doesn't wear headsets any more. There's no adjustments. Marques Colston is double-covered all the time - FUCKING GEE, IT DEFINITELY SUCKS TO HAVE THE FIRST DOUBLE-COVERED GUY IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE! If only they had tried to stop Jerry Rice that way. There's definitely no way to fix that and, I don't know, have him in "motion" or something. It just sucks because Colston is a good player who happens to be the victim of defensive co-ordinators trying something new on him and only him after a hundred years of pro football. I can kind of see how our staff hasn't adjusted to that yet. It's like - what would you do if the opposing defense brought a gun onto the field? So each play, instead of rushing the passer, they dropped everyone in coverage and had the nose tackle firing bullets from a Colt .45 at the QB? He'd only need to just wing the quarterback to be effective. Hell, just pointing it would be OK. The coaching staff would get together in their meetings Monday and say, "Argh! How do we stop Kris Jenkins from bringing out that handgun?" And the coaches would argue about trying to wrestle it away from him and stuff, before throwing up their hands and saying, collectively, "We can't think of anything."

It's the exact same thing with the only decent receiver we have on the team in Colston. We're into uncharted territory here, so I can't be TOO mad.

...

... I've seen more losing football than anyone else in the world. I was numb to the 0-4 start. It fucking rolled/rolls off my back. I watch the games, but when the season is over (and if it wasn't then it is now) I'll have EditPlus2 up in a window so I can add some objects to whatever Hugo game I am working on during the commercials. The ONLY way I was going to get sucked in again would be if the Saints had a dominating season and then pulled this shit the next year. Well, ha ha ha, they managed to find a way to do it. Every single player in the team is playing horribly except for the punter (who really is our best player right now, running for first downs and such) and that's all perfectly fine if not for the fact that this same bunch of people went to the Championship game last year.

Let me close on this. We had a player called Martin Chase play DT for us for a couple years. Never said boo to anyone. Not a great player or anything, just one of those guys. He had some eBay auctions that were linked to from this site a couple years ago. When you take football away from the equation, you have a big, doughy, goofy dude selling some articles of clothing and ending with, "THIS IS MARTIN CHASE! GOD BLESS!" You can't be mad at a guy like that. He did the best he could.

You CAN get mad at the players the Saints put out there this season, because they are capable of playing much, much better. And honestly, it's the coaching staff. Ever since fucking up the draft they have done everything incorrectly. From drafting a WR with the first pick that won't see the field this year, to grabbing a halfback in the 4th round that was cut, it's all been a disaster. There's no way this team beats anybody until like week 10 when some random team slips up and the Saints get a bunch of lucky turnovers. This is the worst football team in the NFL.

But hey, the Rockies won, and if Jonsey's anything, he's a big home-team kinda guy.

Hey, Toronto WAS the closest team to me growing up!

I'm happy for the Rockies. They seem like a good bunch of guys, as far as baseball teams go.

Of course, management had stupidly been trying to trade Helton for the last two years, but couldn't because of their unrealistic demands, so if ever there was a situation of "cheer the players and not the owners/GM" this is it.

Still want to trade Rivers for Brees? I'll even throw in Tatum Bell. Ah, missed opportunities.

I am not 100% convinced that Phillip Rivers is back on track. I think he's got another -2 game in him for me, for FF.

I have had 3 negative-number QBs so far, and in my brother's league Hasslebeck threw up the fourth one. There are literally four quarterbacks in the world right now that aren't capable of completely torpedoing a game, Manning, Brady, Romo and Favre. I wouldn't trust any of the others with the forumla to a box of Cap'n Crunch.

Although Garcia is capable of joining the other group, I should say. Man, was I wrong about that guy.

Ah, Romo just threw a TD pass. It's so rare that I get to see the EXACT MOMENT when my fantasy team loses.
