I chose: GIN.

It goes well with other liquids. Vodka does as well, but I feel I'd get punched in the mouth if I told you that I like that vanilla vodka. If I got punched in the mouth it might mean I couldn't drink any alcohol for a few days while the swelling went down. I'd rather kill myself. I'd rather hang myself with a bad necktie with like Scrappy Doo on it then go a few days without the sweet, intoxicating flavor of vodka.

Why the fuck did I pick gin, now? Shit. I kind of fucked up there. I'd like you to switch mine to vodka. Vodka gimlets are great. I love 'em. But the gin and bingara is a good drink, too.

What do you think I should pick? Just tell me and I'll do it.

In all honest, I drank very responsibly last night, Pinner. I asked for "Woodchuck" at Coopersmiths and was told that they didn't have it, but they had hard cider. So I drank some. Remembering it was St. Patrick's Day I ordered a Guiness. I was told they didn't have that, but had an equivalent. I drank one of those as well. At the end they gave me the bill and I told them I didn't have real currency and gave them a rubber check that blah blah blah.

How was your St. Patrick's Day, buddy?

Irish Whiskey.

Mmmm. Whiskey and ice.

At a party last night, though, I had Tito's Vodka. It's the first time I'd had vodka distilled in Texas. It was exactly as tasty as it sounds.

They are all on my favorites list but vodka seems to be the most versatile. The Captian was let out last night. Seems weird to be drinking with my kid, but it was his bottle so I aint griping.

Any "real" Irishmen are no doubt scoffing with disgust at our booze unworldlyness. Shrug.

I had Irish whiskey on the list, but it wouldn't allow me that many choices, so I rolled it up into the "other whiskey" category.

Sorry, Scotch beats Irish on the whiskey scale.

Shocking.

If you're struggling between gin and vodka, I think you should pick vodka, because it's the most versatile, and you can get all high and mighty about how your heritage is part Russian and then drink frozen Stolichnaya by the pint and talk about how it's just you paying homage to your kinfolk, which is what I do.

It was sweet. I cooked rigatoni with homemade meatballs and red sauce. It doesn't sound Irish until you take into account the amount of alcohol I consumed, which, as always, was a lot.

That answer your question?

Pinner doesn't sound very Russian to me.

Finally, someone has answered one of my questions around here. Mine was great, too. Thanks for asking.

Shit. I'd play this off as a "bit"... but I actually fucked up here. Of course your last name isn't "Pinner." Good grief.

Complete... fucking... heresy.

Irish whiskey is the finest sipping liquor on god's green earth. Scotch tastes like it was distilled through some stinking fieldhand's boot.

Tullamore Dew, for the win.

(Although I recently had a bottle of the 18 year Jameson's, courtesy of atarax, and that was heavenly.)

I chose gin because that would include Tanqueray and my very favorite variety:Tanqueray Malacca Gin. Jonsey, if you ever find a bar that has this particular varity I recommend having a malacca gimlet with just a dash of the roses lime juice (one of the worst drinks I can think of is a poorly made gimlet that's visibly green in color from too much lime).

I love Jamesons for whisky sours (like I made last night with lemon juice and simple syrup) or irish coffee but for sipping I'd prefer a Balveenie doublewood anyday.

Damn, Tanqueray Malacca seems to be discontinued so I'd probably have to change my vote to vodka.

I voted GIN.

Tanqueray Malacca *has* been discontinued, which sucks.

But Bruce, I hear you cry, why gin? We thought you liked Scotch!

Well, I do. I like rye whiskey too. I prefer Scotch to Irish. And I'm a fan of certain bourbons. But if I had to choose only a single liquor for the rest of my days, give me the juice of the juniper.

Vodka is for people who like being drunk but who don't really like drinking, is my theory.

I'll memorize this drink. I usually go to three or four bars and order a drink someone has recommended before I find a bar that orders it. Admittedly, this is usually because I find myself at DIVES and think, "Oh! New drink order!" and the bartender looks at me with his unpatched eye and points vaguely to the pickled cherries, but still. Tanqueray and Malacca Gin.

Speaking of Rose's: you ever been REALLY thirsty and there's nothing to drink? There was fuck-all to drink but water one night and I should have gone to the store to get something but I was just about ready to go to bed. I search the fridge and I am at the point where I would drink anything but water and piss. (I normally like water, I'm just saying.)

Well, there's half a bottle of Rose's in there and I go all, "Bottoms up!" and take a swig. God damn, that shit is as thick as syrup. I don't know what I was thinking. I don't know how it makes anything better. It does, but it gets me how. They ought to regulate it. It has no place pretending to be a liquid: it's a liquid like glass is a liquid.

Since Malacca is now gone, I'd probably have to recommend Ten as a substitute that you can actually get, but the key is just a dash of the roses. I had some vodka the other day that had been infused with lime and it was like the perfect vodka gimlet. This one was made by the distiller (not sure what brand) but I'm thinking of cutting up some limes and doing some infusing myself.
