I think I should shut this place down and create a new BBS that is accessible through Telnet. It would, in theory, be running the original software that Jolt Country ran back in the 90s.

Nobody would have a problem with that, right?

Would you promise to actually BUY LORD and LORD II so we can play with ALL THE UPGRADES?

Look I hate to admit this, but when I'm playing Joust on my PSP, I want people to recognize it. I hate geek chic, and yet I find myself inescapably bound to it. So, connecting to a telnet BBS is something that I will dually hate and love myself for.

Gah, I dont' even know if I can run Telnet. I mean, I'm pretty sure I can, but... Even if I can, what about all the places that port-block it?

If the entire Internet were port blocked except for those few ports the active people around here uses, who could or would tell the difference?

Would we actually have to use the phone lines to connect? I mean I took my phone modem out because it has become the appendix of the computer digestive system. Now that I think a little deeper on the subject, I have digital phones. I would not be able to use the modem in any case. I'm throwing the card out the window tomorrow and running it over with the snowblower, then coating the pieces of circuit board with peanut butter and leaving them for the squirells.

If Lysander can still use it, I'll investigate it. Technology has improved to where the process of running the old BBS is now possible. If Lysander can't use it it's not worth doing. But ... JB, you can use the ifMud, right?

Yeah, but I don't use telnet to get into that, I use a MUD client. Still, though. I kind of doubt that Telnet won't be useable for me, if the windows one won't work for me there's gotta be a third-party Telnet application that will.

It would be pretty awesome to have an old-school telnet BBS. I'm too young to be able to remember them when they were around, so it would be neat to experience them firsthand.

Are you going to be patient enough to deal with my 35,000 questions about "how the fuck does this work"?

Yeah, the chief thing to remember about all of this is that I don't know how to do any of it. I barely knew how to set up the BBS when it was going off the modem in the 90s. I needed a... er... FOSSIL driver... right? Something like that. So I guess we need a virtual one!

The main thing is - I don't want to affect anyone's ability to Post While Impaired. This goes for all of you and I mean that in the French and English sense but let's be honest my friend: mostly in the English sense. But me, too. We don't judge. We may have to implement fake FOSSIL drivers. But we don't judge.

This is a great idea, which I endorse wholeheartedly.

I vow to post more CONTENT on the telnet BBS.

I'm all for it as long as you also bring back Rachel Brandwein, Matt Gracie and Amy Friday.

Why would you post more content on the telnet BBS as opposed to this one? Just curious. I am not asking in order to mount an offensive later. I am just really curious.
