I HEART HUCKABEES: David O. Russell is one of the finest directors working today. He has never made a bad film, and it doesn't look like he's capable of it. In I HEART HUCKABEES, what he HAS made is one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. The characters seem to exist on some plane of reality lost somewhere between our world and a cartoon. And even within those bounds, they seem to flitter between planes of consciousness. There is no way to describe this movie, so the best think you can do is just go see it. Also, Naomi Watts is extremely hot, and spends most of her time in this movie wearing bikinis or other similarly scant attire. I give this movie ***1/2 stars.

3: THE DALE EARNHARDT STORY: I don't know how interesting this movie would be to people who aren't into NASCAR and don't know who any of these people are, because a lot of the joy of this movie is noting how much the people in the movie actually look/sound like the real life people they are portraying. Taken purely as a biographical drama, it is okay, but never exceptional. An hour and a half really isn't enough time to tell a 45-some-odd-year-long story. Within the space of 15 minutes, Dale blows one marriage, gets remarried, has another kid, and goes from racing dirt tracks and struggling to pay the propane bill to getting a shot at driving a Winston Cup car. What? But the most shocking omission, necessitated by the fact that the movie chronologically ends in the split second before his car hits the wall at Daytona, was the post-death weekly tributes that NASCAR fans spontaneously offered: At every race in 2001, during the third lap, nearly every fan in attendance would hold up three fingers. It was one of the most touching, striking spectacles in sports, and I can't understand how a movie called "3" would fail to show that. Oh well, no matter. For NASCAR fans, this is required viewing. For everyone else, eh, take it or leave it. I give this movie **1/2 stars.

Whoa, when was that "3" movie on? I don't recall seeing any ads for it on ESPN at all. Huh.

Amusingly, I didn't see it until last night, and had to go to Netflix to git 'er dun.
