Yankees request forfeit due to Frances

The Devil Rays didn't get to New York in time for the first game of a double-header they had scheduled because of... you know... a HURRICANE. NYY's reaction? Cry for a forfeit on the game not played!

What a bunch of fucking babies. Is it any wonder this is the most hated franchise in sports?

You may hate the Yanks, but they have a good argument here.

The Devil Rays/Tigers series this past weekend was cancelled due to the hurricane. Detroit then got on a plane and immediately left town to avoid getting stuck in Florida. The Rays chose to ***not do this***, and as a result, they were stuck in Florida and showed up late for their series in NY.

The Devil Rays had the chance to leave Florida before things got bad, and chose not to. As such, the Yanks have a valid argument about a forfeiture.

Also take into consideration that it's now entirely possible that the Yanks would have to make up this game against the Rays the day after the regular season ends, which elimiates one rest day they'd have before the postseason starts. Considering that the Yanks end the season in Toronto, they'd then have to go back to NY, play one game against the Rays, then possibly fly right back out to another city (like Oakland) for postseason play. Faced with that possibility, I don't blame the Yanks for not wanting to have to play that game.

I got to hear about this briefly on SportsRadio 950 'The Fan' in between Bronco S calling into say that Denver was going to go undegeated this season, win the Superbowl, and Plummer was going to have MVP, and Bronco Billy calling in some shoutouts to his Nizzles. Sure, the Devil Rays could have gotten out, probably could have made it, but they LIVE there. This is THEIR state, their people, their friends that might live in that area. The Yankees never got over Arizona actually showing up to play in the post 9/11 World Series, and now they're pissed that their lead isn't in the double digits. Grow the fuck up, City.

I am worried about our ability to discuss our respective hatred/love of them without it staying strictly "business." But to that end!

Haha, what a bunch of losers. That's the travelling equivalent of losing 120 games (which the Tigers almost totally did). STICK IT OUT, BITCHES.

The Rays chose to ***not do this***, and as a result, they were stuck in Florida and showed up late for their series in NY.
Sometimes it's necessary to show up late to work. The Devil Rays are becoming my new second favorite team.

Yeah, but they had to make sure their families were OK. I'm amazed they got to NY at all. The Tigers didn't have anyone in Florida except for the groupies that they frequent when they are in town, and I am guessing that for 95% of them their own toe jam ranks higher on what they care about than some diamond mattress.

Also take into consideration that it's now entirely possible that the Yanks would have to make up this game against the Rays the day after the regular season ends, which elimiates one rest day they'd have before the postseason starts.
Torre would be well served by putting his scrubs out there if the game is meaningless, so that's not a big deal. Seeing how the game was in NY and they will likely host their first round playoff series they don't even have to have anyone fly.

And if they DO need it because the Red Sox caught them, then it's a meaningful game that would need to have the starters around for anyway.

Actually, maybe who has home field to start the MLB playoffs is determined in advance and not by record. I wouldn't put it past Selig to find the worst way to handle that and then choose it outright.
