Not a rockin' New Year's eve

Post by AArdvark »

We watched it on YouTube. The production was the sloppiest I've ever seen on a nationwide broadcast.

Haha yeah! Like some songs it literally sounded like 2 people singing over each other in a way where I couldn't understand a fucking thing they were saying.

Megan the Stallion was exactly how she sounds on the radio (working in a waterpark I have no choice but to be "hip" to these things lately) so I thought that and Green Day where the best "performers". That's saying something when those 2 are the only 2 that did their jobs lol. I mean yeah I dug SOME Green Day, mostly the pre-Dookie stuff but they sure as shit are no Duran Duran whom put on a much better show last year. Probably one of the best.

I think it was last year when David Byrne came on stage with the chick with black hair on one side and white on the other and proceeded to bellow out cringe. I also fondly recall the year I was watching NYE in Miami on local FOX and Pitbull fell down lol. Shit like this is why I keep watching.

The choices of groups, etc nothing made sense this year. They bring some random "hottest" k-pop band every year. Why? Why not I dunno a pop band from a different country that also puts on an awesome NYE like Japan if yr just throwing random shit at us?

I will never forget one of my favorite Dick Clark's NYE shows.. the last one! You know, the one where he tongue-kissed his wife when the ball dropped as a half-zombie, awkwardly groaning lol

Its just not relevant to my age group. can only assume our grandparents were wearing the same expressions of mixed incredulity and disgust as we listened to Led Zeppelin back in the day.

I would kill for a Led Zeppelin-based New Years broadcast.

If a 30 year old stripper and a 30 year old awful band are the best performers. . . SAD

I watched the Packers/Vikings game on NYE before switching over to the annual NYE shows. ABC had Dick Clark's/Ryan Seacrest's special and the other three (NBC, CBS, and CNN) were all country shows. One was live from Nashville, one was live from Austin, and the other just said a Country New Year's or something. It's just not for me anymore. All my rock heroes are either dead or too old to stay up until midnight.

Yeah man WTF was that?! Lyndsay started to get annoyed until I found Dick Clark. For some reason she liked Lynard Skynard (which is funny as shit as I really, really don't care for that band and she's from Chicago; it was probably the champagne.) but after they were done it all went downhill until I flipped it to ABC for her. Like especially for CNN it doesn't make sense. You'd think like they'd have some uh Sam Smith, Imagine Dragons, and you know.. other lame cringy shit rather than cringy country lol

Aaron Rodgers keeps running his mouth he's going to get KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT.

He was not anywhere near that game and I am stuck with him in a fantasy football keeper league I am in.

We watched the Youtube live feed because our friends had just got a new tv for Christmas and didn't have a digital antenna nor did they have all the streaming services set up. We were playing a board game and not really paying attention until around 11:50.

My wife said "it's good to see Lynyrd Skynyrd still performing after all these years!" so I looked up the lineup that originally played Freebird and sent her this:

Ronnie Van Zant – vocals (died 1977)
Allen Collins – guitars (died 1990)
Gary Rossington – rhythm and slide guitar (died 2023)
Ed King – bass (died 2018)
Bob Burns – drums, percussion (died 2015)
Billy Powell – piano (died 2009)

I'm happy for all you youngsters that actually stay up past 9:30.
