Music Created by JIZABOZ
Talking on Dischord tonight, I realized perhaps some of you may have not heard all the tracks I made aside from the 20+ year old tape rips I shared of my old band.
Lately, I've been getting back into guitar and music and general, so I made a new video recently and plan on making more.
Note: I will link my ancient band's recordings later.. I think there was already a thread for those.
(Listed in order of creation)
Translation
Xyber Stalker
Corrupt Framework
Inter-dimensional Aquatic Daemon
Apologies if I shared any of these separately.. pretty sure ICJ heard the stalker song and mentioned perhaps adding to Cyberganked! From now on all new music I make will be shared in this thread. The search function works now hahaha

Re: Music Created by JIZABOZ
I listened to all of these for 30 seconds each, except for the first one, Translation, which I listened to for the entire three minutes. I did not really care for the others, but I can't say they are per se bad, just that they don't resonate with me.
Translation is, if I'm not mistaken, is of the genre of "techno" or "house music," a driving, powerful beat. It was okay, I could see that dropped in to one of the levels of Doom, for example. Or a movie chase scene. Some music resonates with me, this one does not. If there was interest in the examples of similar music I like, I'd explain, but this thread is about Jizaboz's music, not my opinions of other people's music.
I decided to go back and re-listen to the others.
For Xyber Stalker, the deep base was interesting, but the high-pitched part seemed "jarring," and an unexpected change of direction. Others may appreciate that kind of music, buy I don't.
For Corrupted Famework the harsh guitar sound is to me, like pepper. It sometimes works, in small amounts. Too much for my taste.
But I hope you continue trying. Other people here might really like yours, or you might do one that I do like. I will listen to others of yours, if you grant us the privilege of hearing them, and unless you would rather not hear from me here, give my opinions. I do want to thank you for your effort and the hard work you put into it.
Jesus, I just realized how much that last sentence sounds like the rejection form letters book publishers send out to authors of unsolicited manuscripts. But I do mean it. Doing good art is hard, and you put your soul into it, then some unwashed cretin like Yours Truly makes stupid comments denigrating your work, when they've never done art for themselves, but think they're qualified to make comments. Since I have done other types of art, although not musical, I do know how much work and effort it takes, and I do appreciate yours, even if I'm not really a fan of your work.

I like the guitar stuff. Kinda Tool-esque. You don’t know me but let me know if you’d like me to contribute some bass tracks.

You know, that sounds like a cool idea. Is there a place here where we could drop individual tracks for eveyone to add on to?

Probably the best bet is deciding on which kind of software we want to use and then setting up a way to deliver untainted .wav or .mp4 files to each other (I could easily set up an AWS based solution!)
I could see Google Docs as a really good way to brainstorm on lyrics to a song! Good suggestion there Paul.

Re: Music Created by JIZABOZ
You mean AW$. Anything hosted on AWS is probably the most expensive way to do so. This sounds like something where git/GitHub might be a good idea, especially since all versions of a file are kept, one can revert to any prior version and keeps a history of all changes and who made them. I use git to maintain my collection of all the books I write.Jizaboz wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 10:26 pm Probably the best bet is deciding on which kind of software we want to use and then setting up a way to deliver untainted .wav or .mp4 files to each other (I could easily set up an AWS based solution!)

Yeah, what the fuck would I know about AWS pricing? I was only an AWS DevOps/SysOps guy for like 8 years lol

Re: Music Created by JIZABOZ
If we were to contribute to the JC Music Mashup would we have to buy an AWS? I would like a storage spot that is :
Easy to access
Free of cost
Able to store lots of uncompressed WAV files from all of us
Let's say someone drops a drum track into the storage space. The rest of us that are participating can download that track and add a separate keyboard or bass track. The new tracks are uploaded and someone else can add to it, ect. ect.
It would be like Soundlab's Collaboration, only without Soundlab.

Re: Music Created by JIZABOZ
We perhaps are over-thinking this a bit.
I currently host jizaboz.com and multiple large files for about 9.50 - 6.50 per month depending on what I'm doing. Adding more files to S3 ain't shit. I host mirrors for private Ultima Online installers, etc and never see my shit spike.
TLDR; I can pay for it because it ain't shit. I'd just give people access to upload private via sFTP or wtf ever to get it on S3.

Re: Music Created by JIZABOZ
I’ve got some basic ass recording software on my PC and the appropriate hardware interface. I noodled with it a bit during the pandemic but didn’t really lean into it. I’d be down. I miss playing regularly, used to gig out a lot with a bar band before kids, etc. but they’re older now and getting into music themselves. This could be fun.
