The NFL Draft and a Football Question or two

Yesterday I decided to tune into ESPN's telecast of the NFL draft. Since I don't normally watch sports, the event was about as interesting as sitting around watching grass grow.

But I have a question.

During some of the selections of players for the various teams, they showed film of the guy being selected, from his games at college.

I notice that football teams (at least the college ones) have two colors, and sometimes they would "flip" them so that a team whose colors are blue and white might play in some games in blue uniforms with white numbers and player names, while in some games they'd play in white uniforms with blue numbers and player names.

I can see that this was being done because they want to make sure one team is in a light color and the other is in a dark color, as opposed to both being in white (and making it very difficult for the players to tell team members apart from the opposition).

So my real question is, is this done on a specific rule, e.g. the visiting team is always the light or dark color, the two teams agree, or is it something else, like a team always plays in reverse when it's not at home?

And does anyone know what the rule is and how it's applied?

Yeah, the home team gets to pick. For the most part, the home team's colors are dark but there's a few teams (at least in the NFL, like the Buffalo Bills) that go with their white jerseys at home.

Just to keep things confusing, in the NBA, it's almost always the opposite and the home team almost always wears white while the visiting team wears their colors. Bottom line, it's the home team's choice.

In baseball it's always been home in white, visitors in grey. There are allowances now for third/alternate jerseys in a different color, but the pants still abide.

Broncos did, eh, fine. I pay slightly more attention to college football than I do to cricket so I don't know any of these guys beyond Roby. I was hoping they'd get Darqueze Dennard but he was gone. Beyond that... I can think of more pressing needs than a wide receiver, but what the hell, Welker won't be around forever. Rest of the draft -- I'm sure they're all fine people!
