Pacific Rim
Oh my god.
Pacific Rim is the most exhilarating movie experience I've had since I was six years old and saw Star Wars for the first time.
It is big and loud, but not stupid, and each action sequence is so amazing to watch that you keep thinking, this must be the final battle scene, but it never is (until the final battle scene).
It is the greatest giant-robots-fighting-giant-monsters movie that could ever possibly be made.
It's one of the best action movies I've ever seen.
Everyone, go see it immediately.
(Also it has Charlie Day in it. He forgets to put the tape in.)
(Also it has GlaDOS in it.)

When you need my help because I'm ruining everything, don't look at me.

I don't have Netflix. If I think a brand-new movie is really exciting, I'll actually go to a theater to see it. After it's been out for a while I might look for a DVD. If it's really old, there are other alternatives.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Tdarcos waits for Netflix.
Given the general rise in expenses and fall in the typical standard of living, the future ain't what it used to be.

I wanted to see this while I was in theaters but never got around to it. I'll try and find a copy this week and check it out.
This seems like a movie that in the long run will cost me a fortune. My home theater is outdated and every time a movie like this comes out I consider upgrading it.

I actually saw this movie on opening night in IMAX 3D and was totally blown away - superb boss battle scenes, WEIGHT to the machines / monsters that serve them well and none of the usual US Military / Army overtones that have been flying around alien vs. us movies since Independence Day (this movie also isn't about aliens FROM OUTER SPACE... More kudos points). Let me also add that there was no random humor or "comedic relief" elements, doubling up on how much I liked the movie.
Went in thinking "American Evangelion" and was pleasantly surprised, though the story is a little sappy and convenient for my tastes.
RANDOM STORY - I saw this in San Francisco and apparently a one or two of the SFX houses that helped with the movie attended the film: people were cheering and pointing out scenes "JUSTIN MADE THIS" throughout the film and then cheered again during the appropriate credits.
A fight broke out between three people (two guys and a girl) within this group: punches were thrown, someone was knocked to the ground and then left after security came running.
Sure it was over a girl... Which made the movie itself that much more sweet.

I wanted to like it. I tried really hard to like it. Did everyone have Australian accents or was it just me? I did like the parts (more or less) with the kanji kingpin, he of the gold plated shoes. The limping Steven Hawking character ripped away my suspension of disbelief (so, so necessary for this movie to work) and left me cringing. Fight scenes were OK.
Is this movie the reason why the Godzilla franchise is making the next reboot larger than ever?
