Life of Pi.

All I could say to Kathy afterwards was, people thought Argo was better than this?

It's absurd, of course. Argo was mediocre in every respect, and Life of Pi, though I suppose you can find fault if you try really hard, is just a totally consuming piece of filmmaking.

It's almost all special effects, and the perfect retort to people who complain about movies just because all about special effects anymore. Yeah, you can make a movie which is about 2 hours of explosions, or you can make this.

Alternating swiftly between inspiring, amazing, hilarious, horrifying, mystifying, and ultimately guiding the viewer into a quiet sense of reflection, the movie doesn't feel like it deserves any less than four stars, even if some might criticize the effects scenes as being "beauty for beauty's sake", and criticize the ending for being cheeky in its opacity.

Screw all that noise. It's an amazing, unforgettable trip.

FOUR (****) STARS.

Really.

I thought it was two hours of a kid in a boat with a tiger saying "Reechurd Parkour" over and over again. But I have never seen the move. So perhaps it's time I gave it a try.

That's only the second half.
