Running off to DC next week and looking for music selections. Whatever albums you suggest here I will (a) steal, (b) listen to, and (c) write reviews of.

Kvelertak - s/t is one of the funnest albums in the world. Sure it's in Norwegian, you won't care. It's great for driving, you're all WHEEE and speeding and shit. Second track 'Mjod' is Norwegian for mead. Before you think this is someone's bs niche album, this was on many list's Top 3 that year. Here, link: [youtube][/youtube]

Can you give a brief idea of things you like, so that I can tailor recommendations? I'm sure it's somewhere in one of the bases but I'm lazy =(

It's a 45 minute tape that Clive Davis rejected because the band wouldn't change their name. So instead of selling out they shelved the band and changed to gospel.

Imagine what they could have been.

I listened to the New Found Glory album earlier today. I don't know that much about Pop Punk but I don't find it offensive and I've listened to other bands of the genre before.

My only problem with the album was I thought it sounded kind of generic. The first song had a couple of heavy tom parts and I was hoping that would continue but by song two or three I thought it sounded like most of the other bands I've heard like Blink 182 and Less Than Jake. By song five or so I felt like I had heard the whole album and started skipping around.

So, I didn't hate it, but it just sounded like every other Pop Punk album to me. I thought it was catchy but not memorable. Maybe a second listen would change my mind.

Is the Crypto soundtrack available online somewhere? I already left and don't have my CD with me.

Sounds cliche, but just about anything. I just appreciate good music. I like everything from rock, metal, rap, 80s, new wave, alternative ... I don't listen to classical and I don't listen to country, although I've been digging through some of the original Sun recordings lately.

Ok, if you can find 'em on the road, here are a few suggestions:

Jesu "Conqueror" -- Crushingly heavy and beautifully melodic at the same time. Former industrial band guy goes from dark to soaring.

Clawhammer "Pablum" -- Everyone on the internet likes Captain Beefheart except me. This is Beefheart-inspired punk; despite myself I love it. This is their punkiest album so that's probably why it's my favorite, but all of their albums have something to recommend them.

The Crown "Crowned in Terror" -- I've heard this called the best metal album ever. Don't listen to enough any more to comment on that but this is truly great.

16 Horsepower "Low Estate" -- Hard to describe but "if Joy Division were a 19th-century cowboy bar band" comes close. This is their skippiest album.

Firewater "Get Off the Cross" or "The Ponzi Scheme" -- klezmer and gypsy music mixed with more straightforward rock and a little punk. Great lyrics. Two of my favorite albums ever.

Fucked Up "David Comes to Life" -- once a straightforward (if great) thrashy hardcore band, now doing ambitious and complex "concept" (my word not theirs) albums. This is the best one yet.

Hope you like it. It was one of a few albums Epitaph put out right before they hit it big with Offspring/Rancid and it kind of vanished into the ether. When I got into Clawhammer a while back I had to scour to find anything by them, which is a pity.
