In the offseason, the Orioles traded Tejada, a four-time All-Star, to the Astros for five players.
The committee's remarks couldn't compare to the pain Tejada was feeling due to his brother's death, however.
"I am shattered. Freddy was one of my closest brothers," Tejada said.
