The 2007 - 2008 Hockey Thread

Beings with this website, which features a podcast that features Greg!

I am going to listen to it right now. So long as everything is correct about, say, Tony Amonte, I can't see any reason why it won't be awesome.

(Just kidding: I thought he was in prison, so you're one up on me.)

Hopefully you liked it. It was an interesting and entertaining experience, at least. And killed any thought I may have had about any line of work involving speaking.

You did great. As someone who has had his text game interview for the text game DVD described as looking like one of the hostages I think we can both admit that it looks easier than it is. But it's something one gets better at. I did enjoy it! There weren't a lot of "ums" and "you knows" and that was/is always appreciated by the listeners.

That gal has a great thing going, if she regularly interviews web loggers of various teams. That's pretty cool.

The first time speaking like that is much, much than the second. My first interview, I was asked to introduce myself first off and had to get a do-over.

Bill Wirtz, the horrible, horrible owner of the Chicaco Blackhawks, died in the off-season. How was I not informed of this?? How did I not know this?

It got zero coverage ... well, it didn't make any of the RSS feeds I check when I start a new browser window. Weird, you'd think being a cheap, desperate son of a bitch would make him more loved and more important.

I absolutely don't get owners of sports teams doing it on the cheap.

Anyway, you hate to say that you're glad someone is dead, because he had kids and someone out there cared about him, but he was rich so fuck him. This could have been any of us. (Suffering under a cheapskate owner, I mean.)

So, Mark Recchi was waived by the Penguins. He went through unclaimed, so now any team can sign him.

I think the cup he got in Carolina cemented him as an NHL hall of famer. Aside from Rickey Jackson, he is/was my favorite player in sports.

He has had two stints with the Flyers, and the great thing about them is that they are ALWAYS willing to bring a former player back.
General manager Paul Holmgren said the Flyers may be interested in bringing former Flyer Mark Recchi back. Recchi was waived by the Penguins Tuesday and was not claimed by any team.

General manager said the Flyers may be interested in bringing former Flyer back. Recchi was waived by the Penguins Tuesday and was not claimed by any team.
If the Penguins want to bring him back he would again be exposed as a re-entry waiver and could be claimed for half his current $1.75 million salary.

Recchi has only two goals and eight points in 19 games.

"If Mark Recchi still wants to play, that would be my only question," Holmgren said. "I'm assuming he does. If he still wants to play, someone will claim him.

"If he's [available], we would certainly discuss it. But from a point of where would we put him, the issue of [Simon] Gagne coming back here in the near future, I don't know. We have an abundance of forwards but we would certainly have to discuss it.''

Recchi stands eighth on the Flyers' all-time scoring list with 232 goals, 395 assists, 627 points. He still holds the Flyers' single-season scoring mark, 123, set in 1992-93. *
An opportunity to wear either of my Recchi jerseys again and have them be current? Sign the man!

Recchi ended up down here in Atlanta, and he's already scored twice tonight (in his first game). Not bad.

Naturally, I thought picking him up was an awful move. WRONG AGAIN.
