Pandora - awesome streaming radio

Post by hygraed »

If this is old and tired, please forgive me, but I just found out about it and I think it's the cat's god damn pyjamas.

Pandora is a branch of the Music Genome project. It's a streaming radio service where you put in the name of an artist or song that you like, and it plays songs with styles similar to what you put in. You can then tell it whether you like or don't like each song that it plays, and it changes its playlist accordingly. After a while, you'll get a pretty kickass custom radio station.

You can also have multiple stations on your account, so if you like diverse musical styles you're in luck. I've got one for avant-garde music (like the Tiger Lillies and Eva Cassidy), indie rock (like the Flaming Lips and They Might Be Giants), and post-punk (like the Clash and the Jam).

Also, you don't have to pay if you don't want to, so FREE MUSIC.

I only found out about this a couple weeks ago and I was angry that people hadn't told me. ANGRY. Because it's so brilliant I didn't tell anyone else - I assumed they already knew. It's Pandora's downfall: it's so amazing that you never bother to let other people in on it because they'll react as if you just told them about Hamster Dance and Chris the Parade Kid.

I endorse this thread.

LOL. I typed in Rage Against The Machine, and the first two songs were a Rage song and an Audioslave song.

On the one hand, this isn't really expanding my musical universe.

On the other hand, I love it!

Give it a bit. The first song is always by the artist you entered. After a few plays, though, it should begin to expand.

Today I found out that I like The Verve and 10cc.

It keeps trying to make me like Korn and Deftones. I dunno. I feel like I should? But...

I dunno. I just can't.

Korn sucks balls, for 15 year olds angry at their parents. Deftones have some phenomenal songs, but they're hit or miss.

You can just keep saying "I don't like it" and eventually it'll shift away from that. It gets pretty precise after a while.

Also, Gabby La La is awesome.

No, sir. Fuck you.
for once, wikipedia accurately wrote:The band's catchphrase is no longer "Primus sucks!" because the band has gotten plain tired of it, although it was a tradition that dated back to their first album. To this day, at concerts, fans can be heard chanting "Primus sucks!" until the band takes the stage.

Someone yelled "Gabby sucks!" at the Claypool gig.

Ah, I see where you're coming from now. I had forgotten about the "Primus Sucks" catchphrase, as it has largely fallen into disuse. I thought you were simply trolling, while it is now clear to me that you are in fact well-acquainted with the band's lore. My apologies.

I can't mix and match, huh? I mean typing in the Crucifucks pigeonholes me, I'm sure.

I found the Murderdolls off my Leftover Crack playlist, and I love them, thanks!
Good point Bobby!

No, you can have a number of completely different artists on the same station. I have Mr. Bungle and DeVotchKa on the same station, and it works fine. I get avant-garde metal and European-influenced folk rock.

My one band stations have worked out so nicely that I don't want to futz with them.
