Billie Joe and Paul

Post by Bugs »

Hey, RobbBb,

According to Billie Joe and Bono, evidently, the Saints are coming. Is this true?

I haven't heard the song, but I do know of the song. I bet it's "fan"tastic! -- Joel Siegel, Good Morning America

No, for reals, I bet it's not that good. Is the song any good? I have not been what you would call a real big fan of Bono's previous work.

What's the over/under on the amount of cosmopolitans Jeff Garcia will consume tonight?

I am going to get the drunkest of my life right now. WTF is this. They play next week or something? I've never been in this situation. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Kidding.

God damn. I even said to Dayna, "They will fumble here," before Reggie did at the end and that was the first time I said anything negative about the team all season. What the fuck. Not saying a single bad thing the rest of the way. I don't need that on me.

This is truly unbelievable. I honestly never thought they'd ever get to the NFC Championship.

Kidding about getting drunk, or kidding about not knowing what happens next? I think you should get drunk.

Yeah, no problems there.

Thro’ the shining gate,
Where the angels wait,
When the saints are marching in,
The redeemed shall come,
And be crowned at home,
When the saints are marching in.

When the saints are marching in,
When the saints are marching in,
Joyful songs of salvation thro’ the sky shall ring,
When the saints are marching in.

Parted friends shall meet,
On the golden street,
When the saints are marching in,
Spotless robes shall wear,
Victor’s palms shall bear,
When the saints are marching in.

Ev’ry tongue and race
Shall extol God’s grace,
When the saints are marching in,
And the blood-washed throng
Shall repeat the song,
When the saints are marching in.

“To the Lamb once slain,
But Who lives again,”
When the saints are marching in,
We shall offer praise
Thro’ eternal days,
When the saints are marching in.

Well, I got my post calling out "Eagle Fans" deleted over at one of the Saints forums. That's always nice. Fuck that place. I was just saying what everyone else was thinking. One guy who saw it before it was deleted got his panties in a wad over the "I hope you die in a fire" bit, which is as generic as you can get. Who can take that personally?

My main point was that if Philadelphia got hit by a dirty nuke the nation wouldn't care and there wouldn't be an outpouring of sympathy. I am a little surprised that apparently this belief isn't held by everyone.

In other news, two events have me finished with the NHL.

1) There was a grassroots campaign to get a guy named Rory Fitzpatrick into the NHL All-Star game. It was the first and only thing to create a positive buzz about the NHL since the lockout. The NHL deleted thousands of votes to ensure that Fitzpatrick did not make it. You're going to delete votes? Fuck you.

2) I was a Flyers fan up until today, it's just not worth it and I don't want to associate with sports fans from Philadelphia any longer. Rather than jump on another team, I'm done with following professional hockey in any way, shape or form. Still like the sports itself, still like playing it, but otherwise there just isn't enough hours in a day for the incompetence of #1 and the negativity of #2.

I'm with you. That city has fucking booed both MIKE SCHMIDT and SANTA CLAUS.*

Also, people from Philadelphia always want to tell you how great Philadelphia is, and how the streets are paved with tits and gold and their sports teams are the best and on and on. But nobody from Philadelphia extolling the virtues of Philadelphia ever lives in Philadelphia. Ever notice that?

Fuck Mitch Williams, fuck Manut Bol and fuck Philadelphia.

*I am not making this up.

Yes, they did. And now everything's OK in New Orleans, just like Iraq! Wheee!

Loved Mike Schmidt growing up. Er, loved Santa Claus too, but that's this whole other thing.

Schmidt is the kind of guy you wish your team gets a hold of and hangs onto FOREVER. A gold glove third baseman that knocks the shit out of the baseball, wins three MVP awards, comports himself with class and just happens to be the best third baseman in the whole of human history.

Yeah, boo that guy.

And then to boo a guy that has delivered billions of presents to millions of kids, that has mananged to circumnavigate the Christian world time and time again while championing the simple moral compass of "goodness"... yeah, I can see why both of those guys get the thumbs down from a certain city.

They are actually very sensitive about booing Santa.

I say this as one Rochester, NY ex-pat to another: I hear that.
Fuck Mitch Williams, fuck Manut Bol and fuck Philadelphia.
Whoa, Manute Bol? What did he do? He got dunked on for ten years to help out Africa. That is sacrifice, getting intentionally posterized so you can collect the royalties from the actual poster to turn it into famine relief. He should have won a Nobel prize!

Er, not to go serious on anyone, but if the insurance companies won't rebuild the houses (which they largely won't) you can't exactly hold people in New Orleans responsible for that.

Hopefully this causes sweeping reform in the insurance industry, which is as crooked as a three dollar bill photomanipulated through The Gimp.

Man, I don't get this anti-Saints anti-Katrina backslash.

Are you daft, Bob? All I'm talkin' about is the "Saints are doing well, THUS HENCEFORTH THEREFORE AND ERGO shit's better in N'Awlins" vibe that the NFL and a lot of media outlets have been pumping out.

Hey, by the way, congrats on the Saints. I refrained from calling you Sunday because I'd already used up my "one drunk phone call to ICJ and Vitriola per weekend" card, and we also went outside and played football during Seahawks-Bears halftime, and that's probably the only legit exercise I'll get this month.

I'm triply cheering for the Saints this coming weekend -- because a) Robb is a good human being, b) the Saints are the only likeable team left in the playoffs, and c) if Rex Grossman and his drag queen eyebrows go to the Super Bowl, it'll make last year's big game look like the height of entertainment by comparison.

This song is currently playing on idobi radio and it's the first I heard of it. This song is fucking terrible! What the fuck is this? No wonder everyone hated Katrina coverage so much if this shit was playing constantly. It's completely unlistenable and clearly someone needs to step up and make a better New Orleans Saints song.
