DEFCON

Post by pinback »

Thanks to WORM for mentioning this game to me. I've only played through the tutorial but:

It's the BITCHINZ!

Been looking for this game since 1983.
When you need my help because I'm ruining everything, don't look at me.

I know the last time I said this I was

1) Wrong
2) Proven Wrong
3) Negatively impacting my ability to be interviewed about Interactive Fiction which, frankly, is the only thing that stops me from showering in absinthe each morning before "work"

But goddammit, how can this guy charge ten pounds for Global Thermal Nuclear War. How?? HOW!!!??

And don't get me wrong! I *want* the guy to make money off this. I *want* the guy to get our worthless American dollars and then convert them into highly-prized pounds, shillings and bobs. You put a piece of paper in front of me that says "EVERYONE PAYS FOR SHAREWARES!" and I will sign it, even if the Republicans add to it a provision outline shareware, which I'm sure they'd love to do.

I wish him the best. If I weren't close to getting another arcade game I'd probably pick it up myself because it sure looks pretty. But I am amazed at the market. I am glad for this guy. And amazed. But more glad than amazed.

ICJ, they are still asking 20 pounds(30 USD) for fucking Darwinia. So I believe this is really a step in the right direction. They're making a better game and charging less for it.

Also, it's worth noting that the game is available on steam for 14.95.
Good point Bobby!

Holy shit, it's the Uplink / Darwinia guys. Wow. I thought that it would be years since we heard from them, what with how long Darwinia took. Good for them. I like these guys. If they had put Pac-Man style numbers around the guys that died (1600!) I would have dug Darwinia more.

I fully support this game.

I've got my fingers in a lot of pies. I won't be around tomorrow night if one of those pies is finished. Wednesday or Thursday should work.

I couldn't really get into Uplink or Darwinia, but here's hoping Defcon will keep my attention. It looks pretty badass.

I like the fact that the three screenshots on that page show people in Russia dying horribly, people in Southeast Asia dying horribly (in the game, I mean) and people in America dying horribly. Leaving Introversion safe to code more kitchy titles.

I imagine the multiplayer involves lobbing nuclear warheads at each other, and many of them. It's like the part of Rise of Nations that everyone waits for and secretly enjoys most. I couldn't be more thrilled.

Also, I don't appreciate Introversion putting spoilers up like they did.

Thanks, assholes!

...

... Here's a quick mock-up I did for Necrotic Drift when I was trying to co-promote with Cowboy Bebop. It was equally unacceptable then.

The best aspect ever of the game is when the "coughing up blood" audio is overlayed on the ambient music.

I'd like to play, but unfortunately due to a cash-flow problem I don't have the money to register the game right now. Only one demo player can be in a given game at any one time, so if there's somebody else with an unregistered copy we would have to trade off.
