What the fuck is up with Mike Figgis?

This man never did anything worthwhile in his whole stupid career. Made a bunch of music videos, I guess, and then made a bunch of really pretentious, horrible movies.

But sandwiched in all that crap was Leaving Las Vegas, which I just felt like watching again tonight for some reason, after having given it a rest for several years.

Holy crap. It's still as phenomenal as I remember. Another one of the ten best movies of all time.

You wonder how that's possible. I mean, David Fincher made Fight Club, one of the THREE best movies of all time, but a couple of his other movies were also very good, so you could say, "yeah, you could see he had it in him." But Figgis? Time Code? One Night Stand, or whatever that piece of crap was called?

How does that happen?

Do you have other examples of this? Directors who never did shit except for one incredibly brilliant moment? I'm trying to think of others.

I am having a hard time of it.
