Old....most of the stuff I listen to is from the 80s.

Again, back in 1993 we got SHITS DONE. Now, every crappy band has been in a studio and they have a professional-sounding demo tape even if their songs are shitty. I was ahead of my time.

I also wanted it more than anyone else; it just wasn't enough. My passion and fire were without doubt. Let me give you a for instance. Once and only once we managed to use a quality reel-to-reel setup. At Syracuse they had a room that students could use to record in a somewhat professional manner, and Kurt had access to it.

Well, some asshole locked it after hours. I had to hold my good ear up to the combination lock and CRACK THE FRIGGING SAFE to get in. Jesus and Mary. But the point is, nothing could stop me.

Now, of course, I have done so much research on musical genre that the thought of getting into a band that simply made good music would be alien to all involved. Any good band has one guy writing and directing and three other guys that do what the main guy says.

They've sort of got a Green Day thing going on with a little bit more worldliness, which is how I would describe Camper Van Beethoven (except, of course, they came before Green Day).

They "reunited" and toured last year. Les Claypool's always got other things going on that, in my opinion, should appeal to Primus fans. Oysterhead was his collaboration with Stewart Copeland and Trey Anastasio. Also, he just released an album from a group known as "Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains." Buckethead plays guitar in this band.

I don't really have favorite bands....I obtain songs here and there that I like. However, I do have a respectable number of songs from a few bands, three of which are (in no order):

OK, right off the bat, I'm going to recommend, since you like specific songs:

Clutch "The Mob Goes Wild" (should appeal to the ballsy Van Halen fan in you [note that I refer to the ballsy era of Van Halen and am not implying that you, in any way, should be construed as having balls])

Fischerspooner "Emerge" (or anything, really... if you like Gary Numan)

The Anniversary "All Things Ordinary" (might be hard to find, but should appeal to the softer side of a Numan fan)

The Von Bondies "C'mon, C'mon" (great call and response tune that recalls a lot of Ramones shit)

I will say without question if you haven't listened to music since 1985, that you would probably like the Killers. They are a terrible, horrid band who sound like they like put lyrics to the Miaimi Vice theme song. But they will gently allow you to see why that shitty 80's music should no longer be made.

I'm waiting for the next big thing. I liked the Rock music of the early 70's, hell everyone did, I did not like disco but tolerated it. The 80's brought a weird time of what I thought was ok popular music, but it did not have the staying power. While I like both Led Zepplin and Tears for fears, guess which one I can still listen to today without feeling llike a pussy. The late late 80's brought us some gay rap music, which evolved into raw but better rap in the early 90's. At the same time "grunge" hard rock,whatever became mainstream. This was the best time ever in music as far as I'm concered.
Here's why

1. Boy bands were limited to Boyz to Men, who suck by rule but actually sound competent when compared to N'Sync and Backstreet boys.
2. Everyone from the 80's was out of a career, aged 20 years in the 90's and became irrelevant.
3. U2 was unable to capatalize and forgotten about until they started doing ipod ads.
4. The genres of Rock AND Rap were thriving and it was cool to drive around with either one blaring.
5. Radiohead managed to throw in a guitar once in a while.

This of course was all ruined by the Brian Seltzer Orchastra, Ricky Martin and that fat guy who owns all the boy bands.

Now music is a cluster fuck. The blink 182 clones is all that is played on Queer Channell. Bands like Three days grace and Chevelle don't cut the mustard. After sans 50 Cent and Eminem (who just put out a stinker) mainstream rap sucks and decent Rappers like Mos Def arfe starring in movies like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

The album I am looking forward to is the next Audioslave. I liked both Rage and Sound Garden so that's cool with me. Everyone else talented from their era is either dead, producing or a movie star.

You've got to understand who I am in this world, is globally conspired against to never hear hip-hop or meet black people for that matter. I tried like hell to break it, I'm confused as to the fundamental differences between hip-hop and rap, and I like one gimmicky hip-hop act, though yes, I do like hip-hop. Aesop Rock, A Tribe Called Quest, Wutang Clan, Formerly G.I. Joe Killaz now The Killaz, Kool Keith specifically Dr. Octagon and Dr. Dooom, Ice Cube, and NWA. I'm sure I'd like much more of it. Though my MP3 player is bloated and purchasing music doesn't allow for the kind of gluttonous manner in which I want to consume it.
