Oh.
My.
Fucking.
GOD.
See, this is how weird I am with my logic for rating movies.
Magnolia was great--brilliant--but I couldn't relate to any of the characters, so it didn't impact with me on a personal level. SO it gets a 4.
Donnie Darko is a beautiful, beautiful movie. Furthermore, the note it ends on rang a very deep, personal note with me. Add to that the fact that I see absolutely no problems with this cinimatic genius, and I give it a 5.
Chasing Amy? On one hand, it is absolutely amazing, and it impacted me on a deeper level than any movie I have ever had the pleasure of watching to date. Just because the main character is me, the annoying sidekick is a friend of mine, and the girl is almost a dead ringer for a girl I have the most head-over-heels crush for. On the other hand, I don't like the way it ends, not because i don't like happy endings but because the character--who is supposed to be acting much like I would in a situation--makes severall obvious and stupid blunders that cost her the girl. I'm pissed at the guy because he's so much like me, and yet i know--I KNOW-that if I were, in fact, in that situation I would have handled it better.
I'll say more on this when I wake up, probably, but for now I'll just say:
4.5
Jesus Motherfucking CHRIST.
