Having watched it tonight for the seventh (!) time, let me make these three observations:
1. The second-most thing I admire Paul Thomas Anderson for is creating Magnolia. The thing I most admire about him is that he admitted that this is the best he (and, realistically, anyone) can do. After Magnolia was released, he was quoted as saying, "I may make some good movies after this, and I may make some clunkers, but Magnolia is the best movie I'll ever make." If Francis Ford Coppola had admitted this after Godfather, we wouldn't have to deal with Jack and Rainmaker. If Zeppelin had admitted this after Physical Graffiti, we wouldn't be subject to constant replays of "Fool in the Rain". It takes a special gift to realize when you've peaked, and say it proudly.
2. In my opinion, Melora Walters should win the Best Actress Academy Award every single year for this movie, just out of respect. Sorry, Charlize. Siddown.
3. Did You Notice? In the bar tended by Brad the Bartender, there's a coin-operated Frogger machine? FROGGER? GET IT??? LOL!
Six stars (******) out of five. The greatest movie that has been, and ever will be made.
