A little spoilery there at the end.

Re: Taxi Driver
At its core, it's a flawed question.
In its original list of "100 Greatest American Movies," the American Film Institute listed Taxi Driver as the 47th greatest movie ever made]. (Jaws is 48th.) In its updated incarnation ("100 Years... 100 Movies"), Taxi Driver is #52. (Jaws dropped to #56.)
Estimates are all over the place when it comes to how many films have been released, but a generally accepted number is "about 500,000." (That number fluctuates up or down depending on people's definition of a film.) Assuming we can agree on that number, Taxi Driver hovers around the 50th spot. Out of 500,000.
So really the question is, "should I watch the 50th greatest film ever made?" And I can understand how some people might say yes and some people might say no. But I don't understand how people don't know what their answer is.

Re: Taxi Driver
I watched the trailer ( no sound, subtitles) and then read the plot synopsis on IMDB.
I just don't want to connect with the character, any characters in movies. It looks pretty good, but then so did Gremlins 2 and you gotta draw the line SOMEwhere...

For the woman in your life you can always shop the Travis Bickle Jacket Collection. My girlfriend has one of these coats, but yet she won't watch the movie and refuses to recite any of the more memorable lines. Even though I wrote them out on napkins for her to read aloud.

Re: Taxi Driver
The answer for you is so obviously a "no." You've said you can't imagine watching a 90 minute film, and the things you do watch you watch with the volume off which is quite frankly one of the weirdest gimmicks of all time. It's okay to be a no! I understand people being a "no!" I just don't understand how anyone doesn't know if they are a yes or a no.AArdvark wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:34 pm I watched the trailer ( no sound, subtitles) and then read the plot synopsis on IMDB.

If someone were to offer me free tickets to the World Series, I would politely decline. I wouldn't go and I wouldn't waste my time sitting there with blinders on. Baseball for me's a no. It's okay!

You're kidding, I just don't believe you've been to a modern baseball game and saw anyone actually watching the . . . I guess . . . Game?Flack wrote: Sun Nov 19, 2023 5:24 pm If someone were to offer me free tickets to the World Series, I would politely decline.
