It kind of just occurred to me that the reason Breaking Bad takes place in New Mexico is because of the credit that motion picture - which includes television - production gets for making shows there. Well, perhaps I should qualify it as probably since I can't guarantee it is the main reason.
Given the high cost to operate in California, and the fact New Mexico is a lot closer than Canada or Mexico, the production credit has encouraged a number of productions to be done there.
I think the credit is 50% of something, probably of taxes that are paid. Plus costs in New Mexico would be less, it's probably not a bad idea. There's already at least one full service studio in Albuquerque.
