Fuck. You are me.
We have the same CD collection, almost.
A couple you missed:
Fred Eaglesmith--lots of stuff, but most notably, "Little Buffalo":
I saw Big Bear Henry and Two Turtle Jim
Rollin' into town, they was ridin' on the rims
Sold their tires to buy themselves
A couple cases of beer.
But they got there a little too late
So they broke down the door and shot up the place
Now everybody's gone crazy round here.
I'd say, if you're going with Uncle Tupelo, there's a brilliant version of "Moonshiner" they did Live at the Mountain Stage. Also, of course, "Whiskey Bottle."
Bruce Springsteen, "Johnny 99".
John Prine, "Yes I Guess They Oughta Name A Drink After You"
Just about anything else by the Pogues.
Tom Waits: lots and lots of the early stuff. "Tom Traubert's Blues" would probably be the best choice, although I could also go for "Heartattack and Vine."
The Dead, "Brown-Eyed Women".
If I were picking a single REK song, it'd have to be "Merry Christmas from the Family." Or maybe "Undone" if I were feeling kind of grim.
Two Nice Girls, "Birth Control and Beer".
Austin Lounge Lizards: "Old Blevins" or "Old, Fat, and Drunk." Or indeed, "When Drunks Go Bad." Or, well, damn near anything.
Steve Earle, "Copperhead Road".
Cowboy Junkies, "Oregon Hill"
The Hollisters, "Tyler"
That's just a few off the top of my head. I could go on all night.
