Jeff remains a great guy in person. He is always the first to call when I am in town and always runs network gaming sessions around Christmastime. (You'll get a call when the next one goes downand I'm around: December 2007, I'd imagine.) Yeah, he's a little crabby on the Internet but I think it comes back to the fact that nobody can tell him about anything new. It just turns him off.

But he is still the lovable scamp everyone remembers in person, and I always look forward to hanging with him when I am in (his) town.

It features the director of the documentary dropping by after finding the discussion, and everyone turning on Jethro Q. Walrustitty as he demonstrates his pure hatred for all things that he himself did not "discover."
So I just spent about fifteen minutes sitting in my office reading that grim little thread. Holy christ, what a fetid, stinking douchebag Jeff was being. Is he always like that now?

Man, you don't talk to someone for a decade, and they go changing on you.

(Incidentally, I think I remember the last time I saw y'all in person; it was the Chargers/Niners Super Bowl, back in, what, 1995? 1996? Time flies.)

I don't know why, but it seems like JQW always managed to bring out the worst in people. He just exudes this fog of "kick my ass and take my juice money". And I say that as the giant nerd that I am. Even _I_ wanted to give him a swirly.

Anyway, the OS/2 thing was just a FOSSIL driver, from what I remember, so it's probably possible to do it with any BBS software. I just know that the WWIV port, in particular, worked for it; even supported "multiline" connections with multiple incoming telnet connections. I think all of the software is still buried in the BBS archive on my home fileserver, maybe I'll go spelunking through there some weekend.

You can run WWIV for OS/2 as a telnet bulletin board.

Just thought you might be interested. Heh.

And, of course, every web forum on the Internet now has no "To:" field.

I'd kill to be able to go back in time and read WWIV boards. Man, I fucked that up.

I'm pretty sure he hated me with the white-hot intensity of 1000 suns, and I don't apologize for shit.

I hope he comes back so I can run him off yet agaaaiiiin.

I did chris in, everyone knows that.

God, you know. I'd like to apologize for being such a prick. Chris was sort of a drag and like totally too much of a ... 30 year old or whatever ... but if he wants like a truce or my underwear to come back just tell me.

Old school news.

Atarax is still in Rochester; he's officially a "Master of Science", according to U of R, and working on his doctorate. Just what the world needs, that reprobate with a chemistry lab.

Loafer Girl is still up there too, from what I hear, although I haven't seen her in years. She's married, now, got a kid or two. Time flies.

I don't know what happened to anyone else, though; most of the people I still talk to are from the old WWIV scene, and never called JC.

Just curious -- I see Loafer Girl and atarax and some other familiar names on the member list, but none of them seem to be posting anything lately.

Da King: Dropped by the first week or two that this iteration of the board was up. Said, "those people scare me." Hasn't been back.

Jethro Q. Walrustitty: took it seriously hard that I created this place, as he was running one himself for ex-dial up Jolt Country people. So he's never been really active. Latest thing was to claim to hate Pinback more than life itself (as Pinner gave him the same warm reception you got) so he left... forever.

The Real Man: Showed up once to talk about Grand Theft Auto 3.

Bugs: A valued and entertaining contributor.

Aardvark: A valued and entertaining contributor. Helps me kill off spam, as he wakes up before I do every single day.

Loafergirl: She is actually the lead "actress" in a graphical text game I made. I put the word actress in quotes only because it was all static shots as the pictures don't move, not because of her performance (which was awesome). Hasn't been by in a really long time.

atarax: Registered, but I don't believe he ever posted. Too bad, he was always hilarious.

Chris Freemesser & Carolina Bunky: They got married! Chris got the same warm reception that Jeff and you got and doesn't come around any longer.

Oh-Niner: As far as I know, not active on any BBSs.

The Duck: We've tried to look him up, to ever-changing avail... not sure if he is on the Internet at all.

Satan: Logged onto Jeff's BBS a couple times, but that's it.

IM HUGE: I was actually in a volleyball league with him before I moved to Colorado, but that's it.
