It's 98% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. That's what I am going with.

Without actually looking it up, what positives can I expect to take away from seeing this movie?

Maybe it's Fifty Shades of Mad Max! They had to change the title because of infringement issues. See if that works.

Since my wife already wants to see this movie, perhaps I can suggest a couple of points to help you get your significant other interested:
- Woman Power! - Charlize Theron in a prominent power role in a reboot of a classic an action movie, yay, go women. Not since BSG made Starbuck a woman has a reboot been so pro vagina.
- Tom Hardy! - If your chick doen't like this guy already then she probably hasn't seen him in anything yet. Go Netflix Lawless, where Tom Hardy is such a major badass bootlegger that he gets his throat slit and holds it together long enough to survive then kill his attackers. Or else, get a hold of the BBC show, Peaky Blinders season 2 and she'll probably want to go to Mad Max just to see this guy.

I told mine that "Max" is short for "Maxine Sullivan," the famous 20th century American jazz performer.

We're going on Saturday.

I found that asking, simply asking did not work at all. It was met with eye-rolling and an alternative -- I was told I could ask her father.

Maybe he would like to go.

It is May 16th and I have not seen the new Mad Max movie.

It currently has an 84 on MRQE.

Last year's Best Picture award went to Birdman. (83)
Year before that, 12 years a Slave (89)
Argo (85)
The Artist (85)
The King's Speech (84)

So basically, it's tied with most of the "best" movies of the past decade.

Hard to believe, but it's true.

Great point! If we say that it's got a rating that ties it with some of the best films on some site that doesn't exist and they'll never verify, then that is another, valid way. Great idea. I think that I'll use "RogerEbert.com" since that sounds like a site that would have updates, even though they pulled the plug when Rog passed away.

ANother great idea. You guys have really come together in this thread. Making up something about how it's got a feminist bent, to where it's almost propaganda is another solid tactic and ruse to try.

I'm tempted to try to use the fact that Charlize Theron is in it, since she is one of the people that broke acting, in the People That Broke Acting Thread. Now, Tom Hardy hasn't broke acting, but he did break voice-over work.

The trailer looked so wretched I didn't considering watching it. Basically there is no Mad Max in it and just a minute of guys shooting guns from bending poles attached to trucks and oh hey cool Charlize Theron shaved her head.

Nice work here, too. Paying CNN whatever it took for their domain name, learning enough JavaScript to compose that article and making up fake quotes has you in the lead for effort so far. In fact, this will probably do it.

I also like that the headline says "Men's Rights Activists" -- plural -- while the article can only point to one dude holding a lone opinion with no support from anybody. That's the sort of slow-wink sly parody that the layman might miss, and a real journalist would never, ever try to get away with. *I* appreciate it, brother.
