Lexington-style BBQ from Prissy Polly's

I left Jizaboz's place about an hour ago, and with hours of good times and good conversation comes the need for good munchies. I asked the Jiz for a good BBQ recommendation and he suggested I try the "Lexington-style" BBQ from Prissy Polly's. Ten minutes and a few beep-beep-beeps into the GPS later I found myself firmly parked in Polly's drive-thru, ordering a combo number one.

The high school beauty working drive-thru pointed to the ink jet printed paper taped to the window. "You get two sides," she said with a saltry Southern drawl she kept hidden behind those shiny braces. Momentarily distracted by the doe's big blue eyes I panicked and picked the first two things on the list: fried okra and BBQ beans.

"That'll be right out," she said, winking and chewing gum at the same time. Oh, sweet Kylie -- if you ever need someone to buy you beer, or cigarettes, or supplement your allowance... I'm your guy.

Shit, where was I? Oh yeah -- the food.

Let's start with the BBQ. The pulled pork came soaked in "Lexington-style" BBQ sauce, which is nothing like any BBQ sauce I've ever had. There's a vinegar taste and a bit of (I'm guessing) liquid smoke flavor added. The pork was wet and delicious, all 8 or so ounces of it. Absolutely fantastic.

Next up, the okra. I don't know if this is the style here or if the cook simply pulled the okra out way too early, but the okra is all but raw. It has a bit of breading cooked on it, but it's chewy and... well, probably a lot like eating real okra. The fried okra I'm used to eating is so crispy fried that you might as well be eating fried bird droppings. It's good and I'm eating it -- I'm just concerned it wasn't meant to be served this way. Does anybody know if you can get get sick and die from eating raw vegetables?

The BBQ beans again do not have a BBQ sauce I am familiar with, nor are the beans what I was expecting. I guess most of the baked beans I've eaten in my life up until half an hour ago came from a can. These... oh, THESE! These are red beans and white beans, doused in a spicy and tasty sauce. Where oh where have these bean all my life?

My lovely Kylie informed me that the dinner combo came with hush puppies. When I opened the sack in the hotel room I thought Polly had slipped me onion rings on accident; turns out, the trick was on me -- they ARE hush puppies, SHAPED like onion rings. Who knew such a thing existed? Apparently I am out of the latest in hush puppy technology.

All in all I received a very tasty and large meal, so large I could only eat half of it.

I'm sorry it had to end this way Kylie, but there's a new love in my life, and we already have a date for breakfast tomorrow. Can't wait to see you in the morning, Pulled Pork.

Haha I knew you wouldn't be disappointed. I like fried okra myself, but yeah it sounds like maybe they pulled it from the vat a bit too soon. They used to have good fried squash but it's off the menu now. I usually get their red potatoes as a side.

They do have a couple of cute girls working there, always have.
