I noticed a change in picture quality about halfway in, is that something to do with all the double A batteries on the table?

No, actually YouTube has a feature in which if it notices a video has problems like darkness, it will ask if you want to fix it. While it makes that part of the video grainy, it does brighten it. When I was editing it, I noticed that part was very dark, and I realized why.
I shot the scene last night where I show you need two cans of ramen and a 5-pack of chili in front of a red board, and I realized that when it's dark in the kitchen, the lights in the kitchen alone really aren't enough and it's not very bright.
Except for the introduction, the inventory and the end of the video, (about 30 seconds of the 5 minute video) this has been sitting in the can for months, I had forgotten I had shot it. Once I noticed it was an unprocessed video, I decided to add some connecting scenes and release it.
To make the (very dark) scene with the ramen in the pan over I'd have to make another batch of slop to reshoot. So I let YouTube brighten it.
