Starting things off, the Flyers picked up Tony Amonte... linkee

I was really hoping to see them make a trade for Jarome Iginla, even though raping the Flames would have been the worst thing for the sport. (The part of me who likes football and baseball hates the part of me that likes hockey -- this must be what it's like for Oelheim to follow the Yankees.)

Anyway, I don't pretend to have a real idea what's going on with the rest of the teams, so update your own squad's developments and transactions in this, the Jolt Country NHL Playoff Thread!!

Screw hockey. Baseball!

(Is The Whale still around?)

The Whale became the Carolina Hurricanes. Hockey out of Hartford is just inexcuseable. ALL the teams that left -- the Jets, the North Stars, the Whalers -- were superior in every way to their southern transplants. Well, except the Diques, seeing how they went from a history of futility into one that won a championship. So no harm no foul there, really.

The poor Whalers, though.

The Avalanche traded for, uh, Bates Battaglia.

I was pretty stoked to see them get Bryan Marchment, not so thrilled to see them give up Vrbata and not get at least a depth center in return...

And I'm absolutely mystified by what the Blues (my secondary team) were doing yesterday. Trade a hot defensive prospect for Valeri Bure? Add one more shaky goalie in Chris Osgood? Why?

MONTREAL (AP) -- Fans booed during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before the New York Islanders' 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

The sellout crowd of 21,273 at Bell Centre was asked to "show your support and respect for two great nations" before the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems.

But a significant portion of the crowd booed throughout Star-Spangled Banner in an apparent display of their displeasure with the U.S.-led war against Iraq. More than 200,000 people turned out for an anti-war demonstration in Montreal last Saturday.

"I'm sure there are a lot of people against the war, but some things people can't control," said New York's Alexei Yashin, who is from Russia. "They were probably showing what they feel about it."

Teammate Mark Parrish, a native of Bloomington, Minn., was upset hearing the boos.

"I came to the game pretty pumped up, but once I heard that it really got me going," Parrish said. "So I guess I can thank them a little bit for getting me more pumped up."
I'd say "EAT IT, BITCHES" except that I hate the Islanders and most of the people on Islanders are Canadians anyway.

Tonight, Mark Recchi scored the winning goal to bring the Philadelphia Flyers even with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He did this in the third overtime.

I will now link a picture of him so that you can all bow down to his greatness.

Image

JC FUN FAX: Try typing the word "recchi" into Google Image Search sometime. Look at the bottom row, first column and just try avoiding wetting yourself at the sexy bitch that happens to show up.

Well, a picture of a goldfish showed up in the bottom row, first column for me.

But I think I get the idea.

GO LEAFS GO.

The Avs are one game away from winning their series (though let's be real-- they should not have dropped a single game to the Wild) and the Red Wings are out.

I'm a happy, happy man, at least when it comes to hockey.

Effing Canadians. As much as I love them... great beer... naked chicks... good music... etc...

Their sports chants are amazingly unoriginal.

In Toronto:
"Go Leafs Go"

In Calgary:
"Go Flames Go"

In Hamilton:
"Go Dogs Go"

In Ottawa:
"Go Sens Go"

Can't some stupid bunch of canucks come up with a little different chant??

Five?!?!! Jesus. I remember sitting through that one that Buffalo was involved with back in like 1994 (I had a project due the next day for some computer class at MCC and sat up all night writing it and watching the game) and that Philly one from 2000 or whenever it was.

If you sat through 8 periods of hockey then you have officially become a small hockey god.

What team do you follow, anyway? Did you grab one exclusively or do you pull for whoever?

I started watching halfway through the last period (Well, the last normal period, this shit was like 2 games and then some!!)
I follow Detroit since Hasek and Buffalo of course, but I could really give a shit who wins. Just like watching it/playing it.

Since when did "Teh Mighty Ducks" get any good?

ALmost 2 and a half games they played that night. Awesome.

I watched all of the OTs Monday and Tuesday nights... but was exhausted Thursday. I threw in the towel after 2 OTs.

And, I'm sorry RobB... but I really hope Ottawa beats the crap out of Philly. I just can NOT root for a team that promotes Donald Brashear as one of most improved players in the league.

They've got a goalie playing well over his head right now. They're unreal.

Go Wild!
