MINI RE-GODDAMN-VIEWS

1. Splice: An above average sci-fi story. Part The Fly, part... uhh... well, mostly The Fly, but with a totally hot chick as the monster instead of Jeff Goldblum. Also not nearly as good. The monster is interesting, the humans surrounding her are not. But the monster is interesting enough to make you deal with the boring humans, at least until it gives up trying to be smart and devolves into nonsense during the last ten minutes. Hints at a sequel, which will never be made, thankfully. **1/2 (TWO AND A HALF STARS) (WOULDA BEEN THREE IF THEY'D JUST CUT OFF THE LAST TEN MINUTES).
2. Get Him To The Greek: Though not directed by Apatow, you can definitely feel everyone involved in this movie revolving around him like (in Jonah Hill's case, big fat) moons. A lesser work than Forgetting Sarah Marshall, to which this is a quasi-sequel, but still contains enough belly laughs to make you glad you watched it. Upsettingly, Puff Diddy or whatever his name is now has some of the best and funniest lines. The last half hour grinds the laughs to a halt, but by that time you're in a relatively forgiving mood. THREE (3) STARS (***)
