In his review for Newsweek, David Ansen wrote, "Astonishingly, Carpenter blows it. There's a big difference between shock effects and suspense, and in sacrificing everything at the altar of gore, Carpenter sabotages the drama. The Thing is so single-mindedly determined to keep you awake that it almost puts you to sleep".[10]
David Ansen didn't like The Thing, which means he no longer gets to have an opinion on anything, much less this:

This will be the spring that we, JCers, re-create the blood test scene from The Thing.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Recreating the Blood Test Scene from John Carpenter's The Thing:

+ ChainGangGuy and savvyraven are actual actors, who can act.
+ I own an Asteroids machine.
+ I ... will shortly own a lot of J&B scotch
+ It snows often in Colorado

- The actual machine is an Asteroids Deluxe
- The J&B scotch doesn't actually appear in the scene
- The Colorado snow will be melted
- ChainGangGuy lives hundreds of miles away

Oh yea, and we don't have a flamethrower. But I DO own a blow torch. So that could work?
