Rockies - Padres "playoff" non playoff game

The Rockies and Padres are fighting for their playoff lives! 162 games were not enough, so the 163rd game of the season was created to solve this issue.

...

It's exciting! Someone explain to me why we can't have this every year. Take two teams and have them play a real, live PLAYOFF GAME for the right to be the Wild Card representative.

Pros:

- It's exciting.

- It has the wild card team drain themselves of a good pitcher in a must-win (obviously) game. This is good because the wild card team has been winning plenty of championships lately. Having them burn a pitcher for the right to go farther helps teams that won the division. Right now there's little advantage to winning the division.

- It would allow baseball to be meaningful again in Toronto, Baltimore and Tampa Bay

Cons:

NONE, unless Tampa Bay gets in and allows Elijiah Dukes to play. HONK HONK

No, seriously, what are the cons?

trivializing a pretty cool thing. You do this every year and it becomes masterbation. you do it in 95, 98 and 07 and its like "fillin in one of the losers heres" sex life, infrequent yet monumental when it occurs. I'd say add another playoff team to baseball but there aren't enough good teams. Is there anybody who didn't make it that has a legitmate beef? Maybe Detroit and thats it, everybody else sucks or had some type of fatal flaw.

And remember the wild card was soley created to ensure the Yankees and Red Sox could both make the playoffs and espcialy so they could meet and no writer would ever have to come up with an orginal story idea for a baseball game ever again.

when the terrorits blow up Yankee stadium I convert to both Liberalism and Islam.

I know. That's also why there is the "you can't face the wild card team in the first round if the WC team is from your division" rule. I'm shocked they even remembered or enforced it when the Twins and A's were the wild card team.
