Regarding the Phillies.

I don't think this sportswriter got it right, but what do I know:

"As for the the team's famously caustic fans? They mounted an "E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!" chant in the seventh inning, choosing to praise the city's successful NFL team rather than bury its baseball team."

Somehow I don't think cheering a team from a completely different sport from the one being played was the peoples' way of "keeping it on the positive". But I haven't been to a game in a while.

I predict that no Philly team in the four major sports will win a championship again, unless a once-in-a-lifetime talent like Pete Rose or Dr. J winds up in that city. (And Pete, for being as much of a screw-up as he was when his playing career was over, wanted to win the game he played more than anyone else in the history of team sports.) Dr. J was probably one of the ten best basketball players in human history and he only got one ring there, IIRC.

Nobody can win there. How many elite players have tried since the 1983 76ers? Barkley, Lindros, McNabb, Schilling, Recchi, Iverson, T.O. -- there was no way Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton were bringing home their single championship without Rose and they remain the best 3rd baseman and left-handed pitcher in the history of the game. THAT'S how bad those fans are.

They just seem like a bunch of jerks, all the frigging time. Who'd want to play for those people? This WEBSITE is filled with jerks. Do you feel inspired to post at a championship-quality level, Ben? Do you? DO you? DO YOU?

Okay, I said "once in a lifetime talent" and named two guys.

I am off predictions in anything for the rest of the month as punishment.
