For all I know I found one band that is OK and everything else is total shit, but if you are looking for music from people who aren't signed (I presume) go no further than here:

There is even a neat little Java and/or Flash player that remembers your queue. I've been going here instead of running Winamp while I try to cross a moth with a set of human eyes for this thing I am working on, and it's been a very pleasant experience.
