I'm very surprised that he got in. I would have assumed that Goose Gossage made it before him. Are there any older denizens who can speak to each candidate's worthiness? Christ, I'm not suffering from accidental New York bias, am I? AM I? AM I???

It makes me so happy that Jack Morris got almost four times as many votes as Don Mattingly. And also that Jim Rice lost out again. Jim Rice and Don Mattingly are the same player as far as I'm concerned. Both Yanqui and Red Sawx fans enjoy whining: HE WAS ABOVE AVERAGE! HE HAD A MOUSTACHE! THERE'S LOTS OF US SO HE SHOULD BE VOTED IN!
Shiteyed malcontents.

That's the best way to put it. I hate the, "He was the best hitter in 12 years, please ignore his .305 average during that time by the way I like the Red Sox" arguments. Mattingly - Christ, if your teams reels off 4 WS victories after you retire (WHY WHY WHY was he retiring when they finally made the playoffs again??) and you're a marginal candidate, well, you're now not a candidate.
It has been fun seeing the resurgance of Sutter's 70s hair and stache, though. I'll give him that. In fact, the only pictures I've seen of him have been from the 70s. He could weigh 150, 350 or 750 pounds these days and I'd have no idea.

Next year's voting will be interesting. Ripken and Gwynn are locks, of course... But what's going to happen with McGwire?

I need to have a vote. I don't vote for Gwynn and Ripken next year until I clean up a few misses. I vote for my ballott would have been?
1. Blyleven
2. Dawson
3. Gossage
4. Trammell
5. Sutter
6. Morris
7. Rice
8. John
9. Smith
10. Write in Lou Whitaker
In light of the steroids mess. Trammell, Whitaker, Rice should be in. Dawson is laughable. Steroids scandall will help him, but revisionist history about walks will hurt. The guy was the fucking man. I could be convinced about Mattingly. While being a Yankee, he still wasn't a cocksmack. Could field AND hit. Too many other guys need to get in before I vote for him. I have a soft spot for Whitaker.
The Tigers used to be a good team and had one of the most dominating squads of the last 40 years in their 84 team. I think Morris, Trammell and Whitaker belong.
