The Professional Help Thread

You've all been calling for it. Now experience the MAGIC of my attempt to get professional help for my many emotional disorders, and hopefully lots of drugs!
8/12, 10:16 AM: I go into my "Primary Care Provider" in a half hour, in an attempt to get a referral to a shrink. I don't know how this is going to do, because I've never done it before. Thankfully, I'm feeling very very miserable right now, so I'm primed for success! Will it be a five minute thing where the PCP says "Okay, hi, call Bob the Shrink, gimme the $20 office visit fee, and have a nice day"?
Will it be more involved?
Will I have to remove any clothing?
True to my pathetic nature, all these uncertainties are of course causing me much anxiety and self-loathing.
Let's get this party started! The healing party!

8/12, 11:16 AM:
A mere hour after walking into the place, I walked out, Zoloft prescription in hand!
SCORE!!!
It's on, baby!

I could've punched you in the face for free. I didn't know they gave perscriptions for being a pussie. I figured anabolic steriods would be a better drug than Zoloft.
Actually that gives me an idea for a better thread

It's a good thing you are not having sex regularly. Zoloft makes it almost impossible to 'achieve'. it will also make you yawn a lot and get a shaky feeling. Other than that it will help nothing.
Sorry, still on your own...

I find it sad that somebody gets a little depressed, and 99.9% of the doctors out there just feed them drugs to try and fix the problem. A good night's sleep and/or a chocolate cake always works for me.
It's also sad that in this country, somebody smokes a little pot to make 'em happy, and they could go to jail for 10 years. Put it in a pill, slap a name brand on it, and an addictive mind altering drug is suddenly legal and easily obtained.

Make it a space cake and ya got a deal!
And I'm honestly surprised Chris. I never figgered you'd be on this side of the grass.

yeah but not always. I only pop one when the world turns really dark. Maybe twice a year at the most. Other than that I can usually self-medicate with a six pack and then everything is happy again. Matter of fact I post some of the funniest stuff
when self- medicating. Too bad I bought a case of that girlie Smirnoff twist malt drink instead of manly Canadian BEER or I would be bringing teh funnie in a wheelbarrow right now instead of apple-polly-logging BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET DRUNK ON THAT DRY-AS-FUCK shit. Believe me, I tried reeeel hard and cannot down enough of that stuff fast enough. Almost want to break out the triple-sec and soda.
But wait, we were discussing Pinback's plight for self help and the subject automaticlly turns to alcohol. How funny is that?
Wait till he cranks the dose up to 100 mg. then we will hear some stories.

You understand that this is not what we're talking about here.

SSRIs are not addictive.
Fuck it, I'm moving this thread to SNT. You guys are dicks.

I honestly don't know if I'm "on this side of the grass" or not....I sure don't take drugs, and have absolutely no intention of ever trying them.
I just don't like the double-standard in our country of some addictive drugs being legal (tobacco), and some being promoted as healthy (today's trendy drugs like Paxil and Prozac), while the government spends billions persecuting those who take others (marijuana). Yeah, I know that some are much worse than others, but they're all of the same genre.
Oh, and making medical marijuana illegal is totally retarded. It has proven medicinal value for people with certain types of illnesses, and as such should be legal for them to use (with obvious tight distribution control).

Neither Paxil, Prozac, nor marijuana are addictive.
It's sad when people come onto BBSes and say how sad everything is, without actually knowing what they're talking about.
So sad.
So very sad.
Sad, sad, sad.
Quick, where's my pills?!

Then why is it that I can do a Google search on all of these drugs, and come up with numerous links to stories about people being addicted to this crap?

Jasmine Miller wrote:On the street, addiction is classified a couple of ways: psychological dependency or physiological (also chemical) dependency. A physiological addiction is characterized by “withdrawal symptoms and medical complications” when people stop taking the drug, says Bruce Ballon of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. “People who have been using alcohol for a long time and then stop will get sweats, shakes, nausea, go into seizures, suffer delirium tremens,” he says. This happens because they have built up a tolerance to the drug; their brain has developed ways to cope and function with the constant presence of alcohol. When the drug is removed, the brain can’t cope any more, hence the physical response. With a psychological addiction, users don’t build up a tolerance and there are no physical symptoms when they give up the drug.
The problem is telling the difference between the two types of addiction. “People will say, ‘I need my marijuana to go to sleep,’” explains Ballon, “which is a physical thing, but also they start to believe it and so they psychologically start to depend on the drug.”

Because you can do a Google search and come up with numerous links to stories about how to summon UFOs, which are actually angels sent by Yahweh to bring wrath down on whites and Jews.
Let me get this straight. Your persuasive argument here is that "you seen it on the internet"?

It's not like Pinner had a rough weekend and decided to fill himself up with as many pills as possible for the sheer, unadulterated hell of it. This is a man who has tried, without the wonders of modern science, to get his life in order for THIRTY-FOUR years. I think after thirty-four years it's okay to try a little Zoloft.
