Guy had intestinal cancer... guess it got worse.
Sam Mills was one of the finest football players that ever lived, and one of the best players in New Orleans Saints history. Which, of course, is why the Carolina Panthers put a statue of him outside their stadium. Mills was a linebacker in the "Dome Patrol" unit for the Saints, unique for having sent all four linebackers to the Pro Bowl in 1991.
Mills was also 5'9", which is ridiculously small to be playing linebacker for the BeerCheese Flag Football Midgets League, much less the NFL. He probably belongs in the hall of fame, but the hall won't put Saints players in.
A true tragedy. I had heard he was recovering. He was 45.
