A week after the best player in franchise history -- Carlos Delgado -- left, the cable company that owns the Blue Jays hilariously decided to increase the payroll $210 million over the next three years.
Ha, ha, hahah, ha.
They also "sold" the name of the SkyDome. It's now the Rogers Center. They sold it TO THEMSELVES.
What a fucking joke. They increase payroll, literally, moments after the last decent free agent (Magglio Ordonez) is signed away, ensuring that it would have to be next year that the money kicks in.
Baseball is such a crock. I hope the owners in the NHL get their hard cap, because otherwise it makes the sport a complete waste of time.

Delgado was past his prime. I'm as sad as anyone to see him go, but the type of money he was asking was just too risky, given his injury questions and that he's likely past his prime. Sure, he's good for 30 HR and 100 RBI like clockwork, but I'm willing to bet his best years are behind him.
Anyway, last year was an aberration. With a spruced-up facility (sure, the name sucks, but they're putting in FieldTurf, replacing the Jumbotron and installing new scoreboards) and significantly more money for JP Ricciardi to play with in the coming seasons, I think good things are on the horizon.
Magglio was a big question mark, too, as long as we're talking about free agents. I'm glad that the Jays didn't jump at The Big Signing, spending just for the sake of spending. Sure, you're more likely to lose the casual fans without A Big Name, but more than anything, winning is what brings out the crowds. And the Jays are on the right path.

I can't believe my reply got gorked.

Now I'll have to type it all over again!

SI just said the Jays are the 6th best team in the AL.
... How? Where is the pitching going to come from? Halladay absolutely cannot get hurt. We need another career year out of Lilly.
So with that in mind, who is pitching the rest of the innings? Batista?
Ha! Ha ha ha!
Hinske, the inexplicable, gets worse every year. He is our version of Ben Grieve.
Hillenbrand... I mean, Jesus.
I'm glad Koskie wanted to play in Toronto. He has said all the right things. I can't truly hate him.
Wells and Rios would have to be all-stars...
... I just don't see it. I see this team winning 67 games.
