CD changer? Christ, what decade are you living in? I absolutely don't live on the bleeding edge of technology, but even *I* have given up on CD changers.

I have about 2 solid days worth of tunes in my trusty iPod. Probably only one song that you'd like though.

Well, if you must know - I bought the CD changer back in 2000 when I bought my car - which was pretty much what most people had at the time.

There's no way I'm gonna spend $300 for an iPod that'll only connect to my stereo via a crappy cassette adapter or an FM transmitter. I'd rather wait til I get a car that I can put an aftermarket stereo in with line-in jacks for a direct connection between the MP3 player.

Aftermarket stereo equipment for a Taurus is a pain in the ass. The CD changer has a custom-built harness and interface box that goes between the two... but I don't think there's any way to interface a line-out type of device to it.

In any case - having a CD changer in the car keeps the CD's I bought in the 80's and 90's in use.

For MP3's I do have a cheap discman that'll play MP3 CD's and an Ipaq from work that I can load some MP3's to. But the sound isn't the greatest because of the cassette adapter.

I do not have a disc-changer in my car or anywhere else. I am whole-heartedly against them. Pick your one fucking disc and go with it, pussies.

Right now, in my player:

The Mars Volta "De-Loused in the Comatorium"

Sure there is: a digital auxilliary input adapter. And yes, they make one for your Taurus!

I installed one in Bunky's Bug, and it works great.

Cool. I figured by now someone would have come up with the idea. Around 65 bucks according to Froogle.

Tempting... very tempting.

You *might* be able to find one that allows you to keep your CD changer connected.....I've seen a few of them (while looking for one, in vain, for my Vibe) that allow this. I guess they sense when something is connnected to the AUX ports, and shut off the CD changer automatically.

Oh, and JVC makes a "permanently installed" FM adapter for $40 that you could use as well (I use one in my Vibe, as no CD changer adapter is available). It sits between the head unit and antenna, and shuts off the outside antenna automatically when a signal comes through the AUX input. The sound is surprisingly good for an FM adapter (since it's hard-wired into the antenna), and it would allow you to keep your CD changer connected.
