Anybody watching the new Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi network? Pretty good stuff...and lotsa hot chicks!
I think it's kinda lame to put Richard Hatch ("Apollo" from the original BG series) in the new cast though. Even if he is a secondary character that'll only be on now and again, he sucks.

No, but seriously,
Battlestar Galactica remake? I can't wait until 2012 when we get
Earth: The Next Final Conflict,
Seaquest DSV: The New Voyages,
Earth 3, and
Space Precinct 2: Space Precincter.

Hardly. I was around when the original series was on (I was about 10 back then), and thought I'd check out the new BG mini-series they made last year. It was actually very good...much better than the "Sci-Fi original" shit movies they normally make.
I also watch "Enterprise", but that show pretty much blows. Other than that, no geek activities on my part. No anime, no online gaming, no posting pictures of myself on "Yahoo Personals", and my house is not adorned with pictures of Captain Kirk all over the place.

Loved the originals.
Dont like the remake. You can't just CHANGE the sex of one of the characters, and you can't just MAKE Cylons look like humans. And where is Boxie!?

Is there still a "Daggit"?

Boxie is in it. If you saw the mini-series, he was the kid in the shuttle-like ship on the planet....when the asian chick took a bunch of civilians up and her co-pilot gave up his seat for Baltar.
As for the series itself, I honestly don't have a problem with Starbuck being a tough chick....it takes out some of the late 70s machismo crap that the old series had. What do you think of Boomer being a hot Asian chick, and Colonel Tigh going from a black guy in the old series to a white alcoholic?
Oh, and not all of the Cylons look like humans...just the one series they made to "infiltrate" humanity. Besides, if all of the "human" Cylons look like that blonde, bring on the machines!

And what else, precisely, did the series have going for it? If they were going to make a new series it should have copnsisted of male Starbuck raping humaoid Cylons nonstop. And smoiking cigars. Cigars and rape. Then, maybem they could throw in that creepy animotronic teddy bear for one hardcore scene. That's what they should have done.

I remember seeing the original movie as a kid in the theatre. They had the sound in such a way that the whole place shook with the sound (probably some serious subwoofers) which was kinda cutting edge at the time. The TV show that followed was pretty cheesey though.
Funny thing is looking through IMDB - I can't find the theatrical release - only the TV movie and series. Weird.
Oh wait...

I pretty much don't watch the SciFi channel - and since they ditched MST3K, I have no use for that channel anymore.

Galactica was definitely made for TV....there was never a feature film made (at least, none that I've ever heard of). However, I've seen footage from BG used in other movies. Any chance it could have been some cheesy B-movie that used some BG footage?

I'm fairly sure it was BG that I saw in the theatre. See the link I posted above - it states that BG was indeed released in the movies as well as television.

I have no problem with the "machismo" crap.
They probably had to make all these changes to it to be politically correct... all the womens rights groups would be up in arms if the show featured only men in the "lead roles". What a pile of shit.

Dont screw with a formula that worked.

I didnt think she was that hot. And even the metallic ones dont look nearly as good as they did in the originals.

Not true....the President is a woman, and she's definitely a lead role.
I think the new series is much more realistic than the old one....it has the overtone of desperation on the human's part that the original didn't have.
Dont screw with a formula that worked.
That's just it...the original formula DIDN'T work. Galactica was only on for one season ('Galactica '80' doens't count...it totally sucked ass).

Well I certainly wouldn't throw her out of my bed, and the new Cylons are pretty damn cool.

Galactica was in theaters, yeah. It was the two-hour TV movie/premiere/whatever. Basically John Dykstra (the special effects guy) had been fired by George Lucas from Star Wars and got hired with his gear and crew by TV-crap-shoveler Glen A. Larson to do BG. Then once the series was in production and they had a two-hour movie, Universal (who was paying for it) figured hey, let's milk this a bit at the picture-shows.
Same thing may have been the case with the Buck Rogers movie, I dunno. But if you saw Buck Rogers in the theater, even if you were, like, 10 or whatever I was, you remember well the nonsensical opening credits with bikini-clad chicks lounging all over the main titles.
Yes, you do.
