Road Trip Mix CDs

I will be making the drive from Boston to Buffalo next week, and am struck with the urge to make some good mix CDs for the trip. And I need some ideas.

So, let us all discuss good summertime drivin' tunes. Not necessarily directly pertaining to driving or summertime.

I'll start.

Interstate Love Song by STP

What's the Story Morning Glory by Oasis

Go.

"Amarillo Highway" (Robert Earl Keen version is probably the best for drivin')

The Old 97's were always favorites on road trips.

Dating back to hardcore days, Government Issue's "Crash" (the song only, not the whole album) was great-- in the listen/rewind/listen sense.

Swervedriver's "Mezcal Head" is a recent discovery of mine-- I imagine it'll be great for a long drive.

Fuck you, Worm, that was mine. OK, next up is Megadeth's 402, or 406, or 502, or 509? no wait, that's a cleanser, or
is that 409? Yeah, yeah, it is, so get some of that and you'll keep all the bugs that coat the windshield as you're driving through Onondaga county from forming little Rorschach patterns on your glass.

What was the question?

Oh yeah, road trip music.

Dragula - Rob Zombie
Bad Habit - Offspring
So Whatcha Want - Beastie Boyzzzz
Slow and Easy - Whitesnake
Love Bites - Def Leppard
Lose Yourself - Eminem
One - Metallica
almost anything my Mindless Self Indulgence
Pisschrist - Fear Factory

Fuck, typing is hard right now.

Sadly that's all I've got. Though Stairway to Heaven could eat up a good part of your journey.

This is where I jack this thread and talk about all the songs that one plays in a bar when one is fucked up and feeling melodramatic, which, as we all know, is when cheesy songs hit you like a ton of bricks:

Orgy/New order - Blue Monday (played 3 times)
Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (falling down a spiral, destination unknown)
Whitesnake - Is This Love ( I have no excuse)
Great White - Rock Me (one of the all-time greats)
Rob Zombie - Dragula (this is good no matter when)
Guns n Poseurs - November Rain (shoot me now for admitting that)
Scorpions - The Zoo (as I just came back from it, it seems)

And a good night to you all. It's gonna suck when I sober up.

Usually when I am on road trips, I am with my friends mother for five hours. She always seems to have the old hair band music or the like on. So road trips always seem to be anything like...

ACDC - dirty deeds (whatever that song is called)
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Aerosmith - dream on

Reviews of your choices coming shortly. (Though as a "teaser," at least you selected November Rain and not Sweet Child "O" Mine.)

My own list:

Love Song by Tesla
It's actually been a while since I have heard this one, so this is my mulligan choice if need be.

King of Pain by the Police
The more melodramatic you're feeling the better this one gets. In the proper frame of mine the bits about the skeleton choking on a crust of bread can be fodder for more interpretation and discourse than the Zapruder film.

Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House
If you can make it through the playing of this song at a bar without singing along to it with everyone else there, you're either not old enough to legally be within twenty feet of the bar, not intoxicated enough or simply pumping coal through your veins, not blood.

He, He, He, you said "jack". I jacked my thread last night and this morning and this afternoon in the bathroom at Burger King.

Can't remember this one by this title. I'm sure I've heard it.

I hear all sorts of things.

Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (falling down a spiral,
destination unknown)
'Twilight Zone' is one of those songs I used to hear when my dad would take me for a ride in the car and have it on the radio station at a terribly late time and there'd be no commercials and occasionally a monster like this song would appear.

Sure. I can agree with this based on your opening statement.

Whitesnake - Is This Love ( I have no excuse)
'Is This Love' is the one you chose?!!! I... I'm gonna need a second to compose myself here. I woulda gone with 'Here I Go Again' -- the slow version -- personally.

Great White - Rock Me (one of the all-time greats)
Don't know this one.

Rob Zombie - Dragula (this is good no matter when)
Don't know this one either.

Guns n Poseurs - November Rain (shoot me now for admitting that)
Yeah, I can see this one getting everybody weepy.

Scorpions - The Zoo (as I just came back from it, it seems)
Ah-hahah! Yes, definitely 'The Zoo.' This is the choice I most recommend based on what I've heard and what I can remember so far. I found my Scorpions Greatest Hits CD a while back. There really isn't a single bad song on the disc. I mean, that's what a Greatest Hits disc is supposed to be, but then bands put in their "When The Lights Go Down in the City" equivalents or their "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86" and it all goes to shit.

"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" by the Police
"Locked Out" by Crowded House
"Shimmer" by Fuel
Something by Tesla, but I can't decide on just what.

Caught in a Dream - Alice Cooper

the whole album "Tim" by the Replacements (although "I'll Buy", "Kiss Me (On the Bus)", and "Bastards of Young" might hit that mark the best)

the album "When Your Heartstrings Break" by Beulah

"Red Rug" by Dogbowl

the album "The Blow Up (live)" by Television

and I dunno, "Dreaming of You" by the Coral

Have you ever heard the acustic version? Very different from the origional and yet surprisingly just as good.

Indeed, I have not. Bookmarking this thread to go check it out.

I did download three albums from Dark Tranquillity last night, however. If the text on this BBS flows red with my blood, well, That's Our D-Tranqs!

Actually, I'm now reminded that in my dream last night, I entered some bookshop/arcade I had not been in before and was extremely surprised to hear a song by Beaver being played over the speaker system. Later on, I surmised that a person at the store had found a cd of mine that had fallen out of my car at some point (as has happened in the past) and was actually listening to it semi-regularly.

Here I want to depict what is going on outside my window right now: About an hour ago when the sun set, I saw the most beatiful colors seen in this world and the next one over, while thunder rumbled and lightening flashed it's way across the sky and said swirls of hue. As it got darker, the storm moved closer and there is now lightening hitting the ground about every 5 seconds in some kind if 50 foot radius from where I am right now. I want a song for this.

Recent update: the sounds of sirens have gotten much louder and closer.

If any of you can find a Phoenix weather webcam, check it out.
