WTF?

I hopped on to AB101:LGATG and the latest message is about... the President??? Politics in Auto Body 101?
I feel like someone who's just gone back to his home town after ten years, only to find that the house he grew up in has been converted to a Christian Science Reading Room.
Pumping Up Teh Funny just isn't as easy over here... it's a new crowd, new faces. I just seem to do better with the old crowd. Maybe things have just moved on... W-A-M, Tac Squad, Duck's, JC, Groucho. The old generation moves on; a new generation takes over.
Or, maybe I just drank too much orange soda and the gas is making me grumpy. They blame everythign babies do on gas, so... um... yeah.

I can't tell if you are saying that you know that the base was always about politics and cars, or if you are saying that you did know, it's just that it was almost exclusively about cars and you're disappointed to see that politics has taken the 90-10 split, where it used to be cars to that ratio back in "the day."

It's not the same BBS that it used to be. I agree with you. We never had anything like the movie base back in the dial-up days. The gimmick account thing, which I find hilarious, only worked in the Orc's Head Tavern. Now people can post frowny-face messages anywhere. But while it's not the same, that doesn't mean that it can't be as good or even in some cases better. I mean, the first post in
this is really good. The Daily Bad Name for an Abortion Clinic is what I like to call "
Comedy Jupiter." And surely, Ben's deconstruction of
Warcraft III was better than any video game conversation we ever had in the dial-up days.

I think you're selling yourself short. I believe that Babe Ruth could have swung the lumber in any era and I believe that the REAL Man can bring quality content in any era as well.
But I understand where you are coming from, my friend. These are new people and you don't have the history with them like I do. I hope you can find some of the threads amusing to read from time to time even if you do not become an active particpant in the site as a poster.
Back when I started this place, I thought that there would be a strong, recognizable division between this place and Jeff's. Certainly, events in the last year and a half have demonstrated to me that it's
best that way, even. But there will always be a place on a forum that I run -- or
not run, natch -- for you and your hilarious brand of content and comedic stylings.

Additionally, since there is no "sort by author" field for thecarplace.com, I hope that you would feel free to send us over a link everytime you wrote up a new article for them. I quite like to read your takes on automobiles, it's just that finding them is sometimes difficult.

I more than welcome the car talk. I just happen to be on my New World Order kick and ICJ gave me the GREEN LIGHT to post as I please.

This is so heartwarming I could just cry. I agree, though, there needs to be a more spirited discussion of cars.

Yeesh. Lately there's a lot more idjits around here. Best thing to do is ignore them.
Don't worry about it, SoP, these things come in waves. A shitload of morons one week, all super intelligent almost Christ-like beings the next.

That's because a) we couldnt' afford movies, and b) we were all too busy trying to have sex with the female BBS callers. (As I remember, you had the most success with this, Jonsey.)
even if you do not become an active particpant in the site as a poster.
Who sez I won't become an active participant???
