At one point, Luna called the cops, but he said the responding officers told him they weren’t allowed to enter or move the tents.

“I said, ‘Why can’t you guys just move this s–t and go in there?’ They said, ‘We can’t.’ It violated homeless rights,” Luna recalled. “I said, ‘I don’t give a f–k about how many rights they have. These people have my stuff.’ ”

Eventually, Luna and the police reached an arrangement, he said.

“They said, ‘We can’t go inside, but you can.’ So I did. I kept tearing that s–t down.”
Most of what MAGA says about California is the stupidest shit you've ever read in your life. They have no idea what goes on there.

Then you read the above and you can at least understand why people who live in California (meaning, not dumbfuck MAGA idiots) are frustrated. Like the owner of the game store, nobody needs to give a FUCK about "homeless rights" when they are simply a band of anarchist, worthless thieves. It's the NY Post, so I am sure they peppered their own lies into the story as well, but that's what causes the divide in this country.

I do think there has to be a change on how we treat the people that don't contribute to society.

I wouldn't go that far.

There is no reason why a cop can't go into a shantytown and help a citizen get his stuff back. "Here officer, here's proof I own an X-MEN ARCADE GAME. Here's video showing my store getting ransacked. Here it is a couple blocks away. These fuckers want to show you an electric bill, or can we assume it's mine?"

I do think most cops will do the right thing and want to do the right thing. Those cops don't make the news.

The Republican side of you is starting to shine thru, ICJ!

I agree completely. Same thing with "squatters rights". Just because you enter someplace illegally and stay there illegally should't give you any rights to stay there indefinitely.

My brother-in-law went thru that when buying a duplex in the city. It took him like a year to get a woman out of the other side, who was renting from the previous owner. He didnt want to rent anymore, asked her to leave, so she stayed and stopped paying rent. Took a year to get her out of there. What a PITA.

I don't have a problem with homeless people, I have a problem with looters.

I'm a little confused by that article, which makes it sound like police officers are completely banned from entering homeless encampments. What I thought/think the ruling was is that tents are considered homes, which means police have to treat them like homes -- in other words a cop would need a warrant to enter someone's tent the same way they would need one to enter someone's home. But if that's the case... telling a citizen they can go in there and tear tents up is the same as telling them they can go to the nearest apartment complex and just start kicking down doors.

I get that cops get butthurt but it's literally an occupation where you can't do that. Like if you go up to a cop and go "bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me, bet you won't pepper spray me" at no point should they just get tired of it and pepper spray you. (I'm sure they have other ways of dealing with it, but you get the point.) I'm sure those cops get frustrated in regards to those homeless camps but to just be smart asses and okay someone to go in there and tear shit up isn't right.

The squatter's rights thing is complete bullshit, a well-intended idea that got bent and abused to death. I read about a guy last year who made a business out of getting squatters to leave and his methods were pretty entertaining. Most of them hinged on the fact that if they can squat there so can he, and he spends a lot of time crawling into bed with them and eating their snacks and stuff. I believe another one of his tactics was carrying a weapon and mentioning to them that if they are a felon, it's illegal for them to have a gun in their home.
