Eddie Money

Post by Jizaboz »

For some reason when I drive home and one of his songs starts on the radio, I keep remembering how I could have seen him for FREE in Winston damn Salem downtown.. thought it would be a great place to take my girlfriend, but she was out of town for a funeral and I didn't feel right going by myself (a rare occurrence for anything). A few years later, Eddie Money died.

Did anyone here get to see him live? Any other thoughts on this 80s cheese?

Some of my favorite hits are:

"I wanna go back" (Well DUH)

"Take me home tonight"

"Baby hold on" (If nothing for that slamming bassline: A A ...... AA ...... AA)

He is a guilty pleasure. Well, I think Take Me Home Tonight is a legitimately good song. "Shakin'" is not great art. I realize that. I get that. It's catchy enough where I like it. The video is everything cheesy with the 1980s.

Did Eddie just sing on these songs?

Vocals, saxophone, keyboards, harmonica (though I'm not recalling a hit where he played the latter)

Haha yeah "Shakin'" is bit weird. Like when I listen to it I just imagine this totally neurotic lady strung out on booze and cocaine performing wreckless actions (The bitch slammed on the brakes while he was speeding down the road!) who occasionally stands up on a table or whatever while screaming "Woo!!" and snapping her fingers. Then, she goes up and down and round around as she stumbles to floor and knocks herself out.

I like all the Eddie Money songs I know, which also happen to be all the ones mentioned in this thread. He's one of a thousand performs from my childhood whose radio hits I enjoyed and whose album I never purchased. Maybe he has a fifth song I would like, I dunno.

Around 2000 or 2001, he played at the zoo I worked at (for the yearly Zoo Ala Carte, where they set up a bunch of stages for musical acts throughout the zoo and have like 100 local restaurants set up stands). I was in the grounds department, which had an access at the south end. His tour van came in this way, and I guess his van didn't have a restroom since they made an emergency stop by us so he could use our bathroom.

I definitely did not work in the area of the zoo where he performed, and I don't remember if I caught any of it by being within earshot. The next day, the set list from the performance was taped on the door inside one of the stalls, and someone started the rumor that he had put it there to memorize the song order while taking his shit the day before. I didn't even question the validity of this story until someone admitted later that they had taken the set list from the stage after the show and put it up themselves.

And yeah, I think every song I know and like has already been mentioned.

Is he related to Johnny Cash? Or is that just a bankrupt idea?
Given the general rise in expenses and fall in the typical standard of living, the future ain't what it used to be.
