Just watch the goddamn movie. How can you not watch Taxi Driver? You want to walk around -- in public, mind you -- as a person who has not seen Taxi Driver?
The hell's the matter with you people?
It's Scorcese's best movie, and I say that as a person who has seen some of his movies.
It's definitely DeNiro's best movie.
It's EXTREMELY definitely Cybill Shepherd, Jodie Foster and Harvey Keitel's best movie.
The fuck's the matter with you?

I have never been attacked before for not getting references. I'm intrigued.

Ok smart guy, you tell us. How do we see it? In case you haven't noticed it's not exactly playing in theaters.

I fear my movie watching days are behind me. The idea of sitting down on the couch and watching a movie, any movie, just made me shudder a little. I grabbed Season 4 and 5 of Ghosts for my wife and I just don't care to pay any attention to them. It just feels like a mindless waste of time to me.
However, I will read the IMDB plot, if that's ok

The Taxi Driver reference is at 3:17, which saves you from having to listen to the worst song ever for 3 minutes and 17 seconds.

Don't you retro people all have VCRs hanging around in your garages or some shit?!! Just go to Blockbuster!

"Feeling like DeNiro in Taxi Driver."
That .... that is what the lyric is.
A survivor. Like DeNiro in Taxi Driver. That is the ........ that is the lyric.
THAT IS THE LYRIC, CO.
Oh wow, didn't know that production was that difficult for actor Robert DeNiro on Taxi Driver! Was there some Twilight Zone: The Movie-like incident that he narrowly escaped? That I don't know about?
Does the narrator in that song mean BICKLE? Does he mean the fucking CHARACTER in the movie? Travis BICKLE?
That is the stupidest lyric I have ever heard in my life, and shame has been brought to this bulletin board by using it as an example.

You open up a video player that isn't a corporate pos (VLC, MPV or MPC should work fine) and then drag&drop this link into it:

Like, omg, I'm kinda like saying how do you even enjoy something like Family Guy which it's humor is 60% references. Or do you not enjoy Family Guy? Or Simpsons or shit like that?

Ok, sorry, that was a loaded comment. We all know you don't enjoy rap or heavy metal which funnily is why that was the reference I chose plus I love that fucking album which kicks everyone's ass. I also understand you don't get rap so here's some schooling.
Rap is a lot metaphors similes and boasting, that's it. That's all. You need to understand.
In this case was a simile where the I assume House of Pain guy tried to express that he felt disconnected from society and desperate and violently furious but because of shared cultural experiences could express that in 5 words. That's the benefit of using shared cultural experience references in art.

You get that it's just wrong and lazy because they used the actor's name a day not the character though right?

Fair enough. It happens in music, what can anyone do.

Oh. That is very reasonable. I thought this thread was going to go in a different direction.
I guess if we are being serious I should say that honestly, I am not against or actively dislike any genre of music, really. There are individual songs that I despise like like Sympathy for the Devil and Benny and the Jets, but those aren't in any genre mentioned in this thread. I do put a high value on melody and I don't quite understand how you guys can love music as much as you do that has no discernable melody whatsoever, but hey, that's why they make different kinds of songs.
But also, not having seen Taxi Driver, I am still able to absorb facts about it; that to me is the mark of a socially educated person. Either Bill Hader or Louis CK has a promoted Youtube short right now about a couple of scenes in it.
...
This is not the video I was thinking of, because Bill Hader in the clip I was thinking of talks about a scene where he is talking to Cybill(?) on a pay phone and the camera pans away because the movie itself can't watch it any longer.
