Blacklight (2022)

Post by Flack »

Note: Today's guest review was brought to you by Statler and Waldorf.

Statler: Today's film is Blacklight and let me tell you, there's nothing like a good action thriller.

Waldorf: And this was nothing like a good action thriller!

Statler and Waldorf: Ooh ho ho ho ho ho ho!

Statler: Blacklight stars Liam Neeson as a rogue agent working for the CIA who has a strained relationship with his daughter and granddaughter.

Waldorf: Do they get kidnapped?

Statler: Yes. Then there's a special agent with a secret who attempts to expose the agency.

Waldorf: Does he get killed?

Statler: Yes. But not before getting involved with a local reporter.

Waldorf: Do Neeson and the reporter team up to take down the head of the CIA?

Statler: Yes. But it's not that simple.

Waldorf: Why? Does he have two trained hitmen or something?

Statler: Yes. But Neeson puts them out of their misery pretty quickly.

Waldorf: I wish he'd do the same for us!

Statler and Waldorf: Ooh ho ho ho ho ho ho!

Waldorf: I assume the head of the CIA gives up easily?

Statler: Yes.

Waldorf: And the reporter gets her story?

Statler: Yes.

Waldorf: And he rescues his family?

Statler: Yes.

Waldorf: This sounds terrible! I had half a mind to walk out of this film.

Statler: If I had half a mind, I wouldn't be here!

Statler and Waldorf: Ooh ho ho ho ho ho ho!

Statler: Well, thanks for watching this medium film with me.

Waldorf: A medium film?

Statler: Yeah. It wasn't rare, and it wasn't well done!

Statler and Waldorf: Ooh ho ho ho ho ho ho!

This reminds me of my own book, since TVTropes does not require works to be notable (unlike Wikipedia), anything published in any medium can be listed there. In addition to a review of Flack's Book The Human Library, I also posted a review for my own, Instrument of God. I - and other people who have actually read it - have posted examples of the storytelling tropes used in the book.

At the end of the TVTropes listing, I even snarked my own book:

Statler: You know why Paul had to name his book "Instrument of God"?
Waldorf: Because getting people to finish it would require Divine Intervention!
Both: Do-ho-ho-ho-hoh!
Given the general rise in expenses and fall in the typical standard of living, the future ain't what it used to be.
