Immanence (2022)

When a meteorite splashes into the Bermuda Triangle, a small team of scientists believes this is the event they have been waiting for. All signs point to aliens, and the team charters the first available boat -- a party boat -- to visit the point of impact and make contact with whoever (or whatever) has arrived. The scientists are convinced they are dealing with extra-terrestrials, but the ship's captain (wait for it -- "Jonah") has a more religious-based explanation for what the team is about to experience.
At the core of the film is the age old debate of science vs. religion. Roman, lead of the research team, is unwavering in his belief that everything has a scientific explanation, even if that explanation is mass hysteria and psychosis. Jonah, a man who survived a near-death experience and has dedicated his life to finding a true sign from above, remains steadfast that the group is embroiled in a truly religious experience.
By the third act, it becomes clear which group was correct. Due to a weird time loop, the characters learn their fates halfway through the film. The only question becomes, will they have the ability to change their destiny?
Immanence is a poor man's Event Horizon. Man is only the top of the food chain when allowed to be. When higher powers decide to intervene with our reality, it becomes clear just how weak and vulnerable we truly are.
